• Shurooq To Host Sharjah-Spanish Business Roundtable

    The Sharjah Investment and Development Authorit, Shurooq, in collaboration with the Spanish Business Council, will host the Sharjah-Spanish Business Roundtable on the 29th of October at Multaqa Al Qasba Conference and Meeting Hall in Sharjah.

    The business roundtable comes in line with Shurooq's outreach strategy to expand business ties with other countries all over the world, and to promote Sharjah as a leading business and investment destination on the global stage.

    The roundtable will be attended by Jaime Montalvo, Commercial and Economic Counsellor, Ricardo Fisas, Chairman of the Spanish Business Council, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, and government representatives from Sharjah and Spain, as well as members of the Spanish Business Council and the Spanish community in the U.A.E..

    Presentations highlighting the emirate's burgeoning business sector and promising investment opportunities will be given by government bodies representing key sectors in Sharjah. Alongside Shurooq, the authorities include the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), Hamriya Free Zone Authority, Bee'ah - Sharjah Environment Company, and Sharjah Healthcare City.

    Prior to the event, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal said, "This roundtable offers an opportunity to explore new avenues to expand bilateral relations and business ties between Sharjah and Spain." Al Sarkal emphasised the distinguished relationship between the U.A.E. and Spain, saying "The U.A.E. is among Spain's major trading partners in the Gulf region, with bilateral trade growing by 55 per cent since 2011, bringing total trade volume to 2.4 billion euros last year. The U.A.E. has also become one of the fastest growing markets for Spanish exporters of goods and services and the same is true for Emirati exports to Spain." The Shurooq CEO pointed out that top Spanish companies have been awarded important contracts in oil and gas, renewable energy, transport, infrastructure, electricity, construction and cultural sectors. Al Sarkal also highlighted the role played by the Spanish Business Council in fostering a stronger and more active Spanish business community in the country.

    'We want to build on these strong foundations and take our relationship to further horizons, and reinforce these existing business ties while fostering new ones," he stressed Al Sarkal further underlined Sharjah's interest in strengthening avenues of economic cooperation with Spain and expressed the hope that the roundtable would yield positive outcomes.

    Shurooq's key mission is to provide facilities and incentives to help overcome obstacles facing investment activities in the emirate, evaluate investment-related infrastructure projects, and lay down the necessary plans to complete such projects.
