• Dubai Silicon Oasis Announces 12th Participation At GITEX Technology Week 2014

    Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, today announced its participation at the GITEX Technology Week 2014 for the 12th consecutive year. DSO’s participation in the current edition will highlight the hi-tech park’s support for the growing entrepreneurial community in UAE and its ongoing activities to support the growth of SMEs and startups in the country.

    During the five-day event that will run from October 12-16 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the DSO stand at Zabeel Hall (stand no ZB20) will showcase the park’s hi-tech ecosystem designed for the technology industry.

    DSOA will also spotlight its ongoing initiatives to support the growing entrepreneurial community in the UAE. DSO’s stand will showcase its wholly-owned technology incubation center the ‘Silicon Oasis Founders’ (SOF), as well as the ‘Dubai Technology Entrepreneurship Centre’ (DTEC). SOF was established to foster local entrepreneurial talent in the mobile e-commerce, applications and internet technology space, while DTEC has been designed as the largest entrepreneurship center in the MENA region.

    DSOA will also highlight its advanced IT network capability that offers multiple power and cooling sources using the Tier III data center. More importantly, the free zone’s incentives such as competitive cost of operations and state-of-the-art infrastructure will also be highlighted to potential high-tech investors seeking to establish a footprint in the region.

    DSOA-based SMEs, large corporations, entrepreneurs, as well as research and development (R&D) entities will be present at DSOA’s stand to demonstrate innovative products and services, while sharing their success stories that took shape at the integrated park.

    Companies operating within the Dubai Silicon Oasis umbrella increased to 1,067 during H1 2014 with 67 percent in the IT industry and the remaining 33 percent in the commercial and diversified service sectors.

    Currently, 38 percent of the companies based at DSO are European, while Asian enterprises comprise 16 percent and American firms account for 8 percent. Canadian enterprises register 2 percent of all businesses at DSO, while 1 percent Australian companies and 35 percent of enterprises from the MENA region make up the remainder.

    In line with its strategy to create an advanced hi-tech eco system, DSO has completed Phase 4 of its Light Industrial Units (LIU), with more than 75 percent already rented. The Light Industrial Units include 22 flexible, modular and finished units that span approximately 365 sq meters. Each unit houses ground and first floor offices spreading over 150 sq meters, while the warehouse on the ground floor covers almost 210 sq meters.
