The Certificate has been awarded by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to the RTA after fulfilling the procedures of testing and auditing the system.

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, received the Certificate from Mr. Tyonas Johannes Coetzee, Regional Director of the British Standards Institute (the issuer of the certificate) in the presence of H.E. Dominic Jeremy, UK Ambassador to the UAE, Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of Licensing Agency, and Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Acting CEO of Rail Agency, and a host of directors of the RTA and the BSI.

Al Tayer was delighted with the RTA obtaining international accreditation in energy management system, as it adds more to the string of RTA successes and continuous endeavours to attain the highest international standards of corporate sustainability.

“The international certification of the comprehensive system, the first of its kind at the level of organizations concerned with the transport sector in the region, is a great & an excellent achievement for the RTA, and a testament to the competency of the system adopted by the RTA in delivering core services to customers in a sustained and highly efficient manner without any interruption even if the main server is down or during crises and emergency situations,” said Al Tayer.

“The RTA is keen on achieving the highest international standards in delivering services to customers with the aim of providing safe and smooth transport for all. It is also keen on combining the business continuity management system with the crises management system and the corporate risks system with a view to minimizing the outage of core processes and therefore achieving the objectives set for relentless business continuity,” added RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director.

Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA Strategy & Corporate Governance, said: “The comprehensive system sets the overall framework for the best internationally adopted practices in order to avoid crises, and ensure the continuity of services during unexpected events which might negatively impact the core services provided to RTA customers. The system provides practical plans about the handling of most crises resulting from severe weather fluctuations, faults in the electronic systems related to the main services provided, or a disruption of transport services among others.”

“Service outage in various extraordinary conditions is not restricted to electronic systems only, but also includes the disruption of services relating to the core activities of those entities. The RTA therefore attaches paramount attention to adopting world-class systems that ensure the continuous functionality of its core services as well as the systems directly related to public services such as the metro system, bus & marine transit services, vehicle movement on roads and the running of transport networks in general,” he added.

Mr. Tyonas Johannes Coetzee, Regional Director of the British Standards Institute, congratulated the RTA on obtaining another ISO certificate, stressing that RTA’s commitment to adopt the best practices in ensuring the business continuity has become quite evident as illustrated in the keenness on addressing & fulfilling all the requisite standards in this regard.

It is noteworthy that the RTA had already obtained a plethora of certificates marking its compatibility with international standards such as the ISO 50001:2011, ISO 50001, ISO 14001, ISO OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001, ISO27001, ISO 2000, PAS 55, SA8000, ISO PAS 22399, and ISO 31000.
