• Shurooq Unveils Sir Bu Nair Island Details At ATM 2014

    The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, has announced the details of the ground-breaking Sir Bu Nair Island project during its participation in the in the Arabian Travel Market which is currently taking place at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

    One of Shurooq's major initiatives to date, the Sir Bu Nair Island project, which will be developed at an estimated cost of AED500,000 million, seeks to recreate the vibrant social, commercial, and community fabric in the island to attract tourists and visitors from both the U.A.E. and beyond.

    Set to be completed in 2017, the island will host a luxury five-star hotel and resort, hotel apartments and villas, a village, an amphitheatre, a museum, a mosque, an education centre, a harbour, an airport, and a number of retail outlets and other leisure offerings.

    Speaking about the project, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, said, "The aim of this landmark project is to turn this vitally important island into a unique destination, one that offers a mix of high-end luxury and comfort, one that fosters a genuine sense of community, and one that captures the region's vibrancy and cultural heritage in its architecture and offerings. The project will stretch over an area of 37,721 square metres, making it one of Shurooq's most ambitious undertakings to date and the result is set to become one of the rarest gems in the crown of Sharjah and the U.A.E.'s tourist destinations." Al Sarkal stated that once completed, Sir Bu Nair Island project will include a luxury hotel with the main structure featuring sixty 1-bedroom suite units, in addition to a number of beach chalets and houses. The second part of the hotel will include 17 suites and chalets on the hotel's Turtle Beach.

    The development will also include a 9,693 square metre village that will feature two 2-bedroom villas, ten 3-bedroom villas, four 4-bedroom villas, and one VIP villa. In addition to the villas, the village will feature a total of thirty 2 and 3-bedroom apartments in both simplex and duplex arrangements.

    The development will also include activity centre with student accommodation with twenty-two 6-bed chalets for the various educational programmes that will run on the island.

    Sir Bu Nair Island, a marine and wildlife habitat, is located 65km off the U.A.E. coastline on the Arabian Gulf. During its participation in ATM 2014, which falls under the umbrella of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Shurooq held a number of meetings with representatives of travel agencies and leisure operators to discus avenues of cooperation and explore investment opportunities available in the emirate's tourism and leisure sector.
