• Shurooq To Spotlight Sharjah At Russias Leading Travel Exhibition

The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, will be participating in the 21st Moscow International Exhibition - Travel and Tourism (MITT) under the umbrella of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, SCTDA, which is beginning tomorrow at the Expocentre Moscow.

Russia’s leading and largest travel and tourism exhibition, MITT is one of the five biggest travel industry events globally and the premier event for international companies looking to promote themselves to the Russian outbound travel and tourism market.

Shurooq will be represented by Yousuf Ahmed Al Mutawa, Heart of Sharjah Manager, who said, "Russia presents a key tourism market for Sharjah. In the first half of 2013, Russian tourists represented 23 percent of all European tourists who visited Sharjah, a figure that becomes even more significant when taken into consideration that European visitors made up the largest segment, 37 percent, of the 951,592 guests staying at the emirate’s various hotels during the same period. In light of this, Shurooq is very eager to once again make its presence felt at MITT and will be making use of this opportunity to promote Sharjah’s diverse tourism offering." Al Mutawa went on to say that Shurooq’s stand at the exhibition will aim to give Russian tourism operators and members of the public an overview of the Authority’s various projects, such as the Al Montazah Amusement and Water Park, which includes an amusement park that offers a host of electronic games, a recreational park catering to outdoor activities, and a one-of-its-kind water-park.

Other projects in the spotlight will include the five-phase 15-year historical restoration project, Heart of Sharjah, the 5-star AED 100 million Al Bait Hotel project, which will form part of the Heart of Sharjah development and will be the region’s first traditional Emirati hotel, Kalba Eco-tourism Project, Al Jabal Resort - The Chedi Khorfakkan, Sir Bu Nuair Island project and the development of Al Hisn Island - Dibba Al Hisn.

The U.A.E. and Russia enjoy a well-established and strong economic partnership and bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to $1.8 billion in 2013. The U.A.E. has invested $18 billion in Russia so far, and is ranked among Russia’s top ten foreign investors according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. There are 3,000 Russian firms operating in the U.A.E. according to the Russian Businessmen’s Council in the U.A.E. Over 2 million Russian tourists visited the U.A.E. in 2013.
