• Pegasus Agritech Partner With Gems Our Own English High School

The region’s premier providers of hydroponics farming facilities, have orchestrated a groundbreaking partnership with one of Dubai’s leading schools. Hydroponics is an innovative agricultural technique that uses 80% less water than traditional methods and removes the need for pesticides and fertilizer. It has the ability to transform a barren desert into a fertile landscape for fresh produce.

Hydroponics has emerged as the answer to food security, a key pillar of the UN World Food Programme, in a region that struggles to produce its own food. Middle East is the most exciting, emerging destination for business, holidays and luxury living with increasing numbers of visitors experiencing the charms of Arabia every year. Food security is of paramount importance in safeguarding the region’s continued growth and stability. Middle East imports 98% of its food, a costly and unsustainable figure. This is due to the harsh and inhospitable climate that prohibits crops from prospering during the hot season. Hydroponics is the art of growing without soil, using a nutrient film techniquethat delivers a mixture of water and vital minerals to the plants, allowing them to grow all year round and decreasing the demand for imports.

Pegasus partnered with GEMS Our Own English School to ensure the next generation is educated about food security and the importance of healthy eating. They have prepared a hydroponics syllabus for the students and installed a mini farm in the school where students and teachers can grow their own organic produce. Their team of experts visited the school last Thursday for the inauguration of the farm and to give classes and seminars.

Throughout the course, participants will conduct a multitude of experiments, trialing different nutrient solutions, pH levels and mediums of growth. Alongside the practical learning, there will also be a field trip to Pegasus Agritech’s impressive farm facility in Dubai to give the students a first hand insight into how a successful, commercial farm runs.

On completion, all the students will receive a certificate from Dr. Ashraf Omran, the creator of the technology and the world’s most sought after hydroponic farming consultant.

As Dubai grows in size and the demand for food increases too, our children are growing up acquainted with the art of hydroponics, as fruit and vegetables grow in a previously uninhabited desert.
