Aquatic Performance At The Central Souk Dazzles Spectators At Sharjah Light Festival

One of Sharjah’s most historic and celebrated landmarks, the Central Souk once again returns as a key location that will be showcased in the Sharjah Light Festival.

This year, the Central Souk’s ever popular evening performance features a globally renowned aquatic show called ‘Water Fools’. A modern day fairytale, the story unfolds on the water’s surface in a visually arresting display like no other, brought to Sharjah by France’s famous Ilotopie troupe.

A favourite venue that has featured in the festival since its debut, the legendary Central Souk was built in 1978 overlooking the picturesque Khalid Lagoon. The Souk houses over 600 shops and is known for its intricately designed Arabic architecture.

The show parade kicks off from The Flag Island at 8.00 pm in a tour around Khalid Lagoon to reach the Central Souk side where the show starts at 9.00pm, leaving spectators with enchanting memories of light and colour.

‘Water Fools’ is an interactive hour-long show that begins as a car appears to float effortlessly on water and a man sitting under a tree watches how life goes on around him. The breath-taking spectacle climaxes as the man’s head suddenly bursts into flames, setting in motion a series of extraordinary scenes on the sparkling Lagoon waters.

The Sharjah Light Festival, now in its fourth year and already attracting tremendous international attention, is an initiative to showcase the rich cultural heritage and historic architecture of Sharjah. The Central Souk is only one of the many landmarks and tourist attractions that make Sharjah an attractive destination for people from all over the UAE, GCC and beyond.

The Sharjah Light Festival will go on till 14 February 2014 at 12 different Sharjah locations. Besides the Central Souk, other festival locations this year are Sharjah Municipality, Kuwait Square, Cultural Palace Square, King Faisal Mosque, Al Majaz Mosque, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba (internal façades), Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies, Hamza Bin Abdul Mottaleb Mosque in Kalba, and Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque in Khorfakkan.
