• SMC To Unveil Agenda And Speakers Of Inaugural International Government Communication Forum 2014

    Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) will host a press conference on Wednesday, February 5 at10:30am,Al Qasbato announcethe details of the inauguralInternational Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2014) that will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

    Headlined by His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi,Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre,and Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, the press conference will outline the forum’s agenda, topicsand grounds of selection. The names of speakers, thought leaders, diplomats and prominent media and communication experts who will grace the event will also be announced at the briefing.

    Moderated by the renownedtelevision personality and journalist Turki Al-Dakhil, the press conference will additionally provide insights into the most distinctive aspects of this year’s international forum that has gained a global dimension when compared to the previous edition of the Government Communication Forum held 2013.

    Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, said: "The press conference will give all those who are interested in attending the event from around the region and world, the time to arrange their schedule and open the window for the media to start thinking, questioning and sharing their views on this landmark event.”

    He added: "IGCF 2014has gained a global significance primarily for the topics it showcases –communication issues that concern governments and their audiences around the world. This year’s forum will also discuss how new media tools and an evolving media landscape affect the practices of government communication globally, and offer invaluable ideas on ways to improve mechanisms of government communication in theinformation era. Interesting macro topics,case studies, lectures and workshops addressing the role of effective government communication in shaping the future of nations and peoples will form key highlights.”

    The inaugural edition of IGCF was held by Sharjah Media Centre in 2012. The regional forum discussed relevant communication challenges that were triggered by the socio-political occurrences in the Arab world. IGCF 2014 is a first-of-its-kind event that articulates the SMC’s efforts to develop government communication mechanisms for the benefit of government institutions in the UAE and the wider region.
