• Sharjah Ladies Club Starts Off Women & Art Exhibition- 5th Session

    Khawla Al Serkal, Director of Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) announced the start off of Women &Art Exhibition (W&A) during a conference held on 20th January 2014 in Kunooz ballroom at SLC under the patronage of the Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Chairperson of SLC. The exhibition will take place from the 27 January till 28 February 2014. the conference was attended by the event’s organizers and representatives of the sponsoring companies, His Excellency Abdulaziz Hamad Taryam, CEO Advisor & General Manager, North East Emirates, along with artist and member of the judging committee Ebtisam Abdulaziz, Sara Al Marzouqi – Collage Talent center Manager, and Badria Al Ali, Head of Corporate Communication Department.

    Wherein Al Serkal initiated her speech by thanking H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, for the support she has given towards women and the emphasis on exchanging cultures between countries. She also thanked the event’s Main sponsor “Etisalat” on their constant interest in supporting the club.

    She then talked about the 5th Women & Art Exhibition and what separates it from the rest of exhibitions, she said “We always aim to come up with new ideas that have a special touch relating to women, since we contacted the embassies, we put rules to select the artists, we nominated 4 artists from each country, we received positive feedback, we only chose one from each country, so that there is credibility, the jury chose the final rounds. The selection committee consists top experienced artists who are well distinguished in their fields of art, and they are artist Dr. Najat Makki, Emirati Artist Mattar Bin Lahej, Artist Ebtisam Abdulaziz, and Artist & Calligrapher Khalifa Al Shimy”.

    Al Serkal added, the exhibition this year is witnessing 24 artists’ participation from all over the world, and the opening will take place at Sharjah Art Museum on 27th January, under the patronage of HH Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi and will continue for a period of one month. The event will be accompanied by a media and marketing plan to advertise for the event and to attract interested individuals in arts and exhibit the artists experiences. Al Serkal also announced new participating countries which are, Algeria, Armenia, Egypt, France, India, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Dominican Republic, Turkey, USA.

    aAfter that, artist Ebtisam Abdulaziz and member of the judging committee talked about her experience as a judge and said, “When we speak about peace as the cornerstone of human values, we see that it can be expressed generally and specifically through the lens of each artist. The participating artwork will share the artists’ take on profound and radical concepts that touch on the subjects of hope and human justice. Also, there are forms of peace that revolve around women in the Arab and international worlds. Some artwork was inspired by expressing the balance between the various community segments like the human relations which are essential aspects of social peace. In addition, peace is illustrated as an embodiment of inner peace; one that carries the innermost feelings and principles of humanity including respect for individual privacy, freedom, justice, solidity, and self-acceptance,

    The exhibition will feature a host of art pieces including abstract and expressive acrylic paintings, oil and water paintings, collage and artwork made with minerals, timber, gems, as well as others that are studded with crystals. The exhibition will also host a large share of photography and calligraphy”.

    The exhibition will also accompany workshops during which the artists will discuss topics of peace, and will serve as an open domain to every artist to display her idea and perceptions in the various concepts of peace.

    Reflects the keenness of those who support it to strengthen the role and status of women in the UAE and the Arab lay sublime human values and their interaction with the current issues with all the responsibility and obligation stems from the values and morals of the UAE community.

    In conclusion, Sara Al Marzouqi thanked the media for their attentiveness with women events that the club organizes, and thanked the event’s sponsors Etisalat, Beeah, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Electricity & Water authority, and in association with Sharjah Museums department and Sharjah Art Museum, and media partners Sharjah Tv, Al Shuala Media, Fakhama Magazine, Khaleej Times, Arab Women Awards, Masala! And Ahlan!. And hoped this exhibition a huge success like it’s used to in the previous years.

    It is worthy to mention that the W&A exhibition is held every two years, will complete its 5th year since it was launched back in 2000 14 years ago, will witness the participation of 3 Emirati artists. This expresses the sense of depth and emotion of Emirati women and their role in the world today.
