• Women & Art Judging Committee Concludes Evaluating Participating Art Pieces

    The 5th Women & Art (W&A) – Interpreting Peace 2014 judging committee concluded evaluating artworks of candidates participating in the exhibition. The exhibition is organized by Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) and will be held during 27th Jan – 28th Feb 2014.

    Various Arab and foreign countries will be participating in the exhibition, where consulates and embassies nominated 4 artists from every country and approved by the committee.

    The committee consists of five distinct competencies in the field of art, ranging from art, abstract and visual such as Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President & Director of Sharjah Art Foundation. Artist Dr. Najat Makki, Emirati Artist Mattar Bin Lahej, Artist Ebtisam Abdulaziz, and Artist & Calligrapher Khalifa Al Shimy.

    The committee praised the participating artworks and its compatibility to the exhibition’s theme, the extent of innovations and going off the usual technicalities. Several artworks reached the required level, while some failed and were excluded.

    29 artists from all over the world chosen by the committee will be participating in the exhibition, including 3 artists from the UAE.

    Countries participating in the exhibition are, Italy, France, Turkey, USA, Belarus, Australia, Armenia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Iran, India, Dominican Republic, Angola and Albania. Also, a huge participations from the Arab countries such as, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, Algeria, Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Egypt.

    Ongoing communications with the artists selected to participate, to send their works to be displayed in the exhibition, where the exhibition will also accompany the “best peace award”. Artworks will be examined and rated by the committee and winners will be announced during the closing ceremony.

    The women & art exhibition have worked throughout the past years to establish the status of women all over the world in the arts field by expressing various global issues. Every year the exhibition carries a topic of great importance such as the environment and peace. We received a wide selection of art pieces, where committee members selected the best ones and confirmed the participation of 29 countries from all over the world, also to a wide range of Arab artists. Various types of arts included such as, fine arts, abstract and visuals”. Said Khawla Al Serkal, Head of W&A judging committee and Director of SLC.

    It is worthy to mention that Women & art exhibition is under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme council for Family Affairs & SLC. Organized every 2 years since 2000 aimed to meet artists and exchange cultures and provide an art outlet for women. The exhibition carries a global theme participated by all ladies, and themes raised previously such as peace, war, global vision, the environment & the future, and this year’s theme “Interpreting Peace”.
