Nada Al Naqbi started the meeting by thanking attendees their dedication and efforts put in so far, and made special mention of the personal attention that Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi has been consistently paying to all aspects of the preparations for this important event.

During and after the meeting, Nada Al Naqbi, Head of the Executive Committee and Manager of the AWST, said that: "Through the many meetings that have taken place over the past months, bringing together the Committees responsible for organizing this large pan-Arab sports event, we re-affirm our dedication to the wishes and instructions of by Sheikha Jawahir bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, to deliver this landmark event to highest international standards in terms of organization and outcome, and in doing so, showing Sharjah and the UAE to the region and the world with honour and pride”.

In order to accomplish this goal, Al Naqbi announced the establishment of a new committee called the Performance and Development Committee for AWST 2014, tasked with linking the event to various societal sectors and segments, using a methodology honed at other regional and global events. The Committee will receive suggestions and complaints regarding the Tournament from society at large, and work on improving performance so it benefits everyone. It will also oversee all processes and procedures related to this important event.

At the top of the meeting agenda was the discussion of the minutes of the previous meeting and presentation of the latest updates from the Communications Committee, the Technical Committee, the Security and Safety Committee, and the Public Relations Committee.

This was followed by presentation of the list of participating countries, discussion of the mechanisms for facilitating teams’ training in sports facilities, and the holding of several workshops to be attended by participating sportswomen, chairpersons, volunteers and members of the Organizing Committees.

The AWST Organizing Committee received earlier this year applications for participation in AWST 2014 from ten Arab countries, including the five other GCC countries, Palestine (participating in 5 games - basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, and athletics), Oman (participating in 4 games - basketball, volleyball, shooting, and athletics), Sudan (participating in archery), Jordan (participating in basketball), and Iraq (participating in basketball and shooting).

12 sports facilities are preparing to host the training and tournament for the participating countries in seven different events, which are basketball and volleyball in team games, and table tennis, shooting, fencing, archery, and athletics among the individual contests.
