The zoo is also proud to welcome the military music band as they participate in the traditional national parade on 2 December.

Throughout the long weekend and holiday, a stage at Al Ain Zoo’s heritage village will host a variety of traditional Arabic dance performances, such as Harbiya. Guests can also take in falconry and saluki shows on the stage, while arts and crafts, children’s workshops, henna and Arabic calligraphy are on offer for those who want to indulge in creativity. A competition for the best traditional Emirati costume will be open to all visitors, who can also capture the moment in a photo studio for this special occasion. A selection of historic photographs and sketches from Al Ain Theatre actor Saeed Al Shiryani will also be on display to inspire national pride.

Visitors can witness local food cooking demonstrations, or take in some quality time to celebrate this special holiday with a picnic on Al Ain Zoo’s beautifully manicured lawns. Alternatively, families can grab a quick snack and cool drink while exploring the zoo, or enjoy a delicious meal at the Zarafa Café or the kiosks conveniently located throughout the zoo.

Commenting on the occasion, H.E. Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Director General of Al Ain Zoo, said:

“Al Ain Zoo was founded 45 years ago by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan – the father of our nation – and as such, celebrating the UAE’s 42nd National Day is a very proud moment for all of us. This year has seen many considerable achievements for the UAE, including the most recent and very well-deserved award of the Expo2020 to Dubai. We congratulate His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on this occasion and wish the UAE’s leadership and people continued success and prosperity, as we look forward to welcoming guests to join us in commemorating the UAE’s rich history.”

Al Ain Zoo’s loyal team members were treated to a special event on the morning of National Day. Following the National Anthem and a reading from the Holy Quran, H.E. Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri gave a speech highlighting his pride in the team and the zoo’s development since its inauguration.

A premier choice for education and leisure, Al Ain Zoo offers visitors the chance to explore wildlife in a setting that mimics their natural habitats while also learning about the diverse collection of animals. Visitors can witness and learn about native wildlife first-hand, with the zoo being home to one of the largest collections of Arabian species. Guests can further experience a range of exciting activities such as bird and parrot shows, bird feeding, camel and pony rides, and giraffe feeding.
