Organised In Association With UAE Ministry Of Education And Ajman Municipality To Raise Environmental Awareness

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality, and in association with UAE Ministry of Education, Ramada Hotel and Suites Ajman will organise a not-for-profit art competition aimed at raising environmental awareness among 100,000 school children in the northern emirates.

With the theme “Going Green: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, the art competition is open to students of the emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah aged six to 12. The painting should illustrate how children can contribute in the conservation of the environment through the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle approach. The competition is divided into Grades II and III category and Grades IV and V category. The Ministry of Education will start distribution of art sheets to different schools through the education zones starting 1st October, and students can showcase their painting talents using crayons and water or oil paint.

Iftikhar Hamdani, General Manager, Ramada Hotel and Suites Ajman, said: “We would like to thank the UAE Ministry of Education and our sponsors for supporting our green initiatives. This art competition aims to raise awareness and encourage youth involvement in taking care of the planet and we look forward to the active participation of the schools, along with the support of the other organisations in making this art competition a success.”

Ramada Hotel and Suites Ajman has been notably involved in various green initiatives. It pioneered the Zero Landfill Project in 2012, which reduced the hotel’s landfill waste disposal by 90%. In April 2013, it converted an area of its car park to set up an urban farm, which grows vegetables and crops used in the hotel kitchen. The hotel also organises regular beach clean-up drive and actively participates in Earth Hour, Earth Day and World Environment Day.

The submission deadline of art sheets for the Going Green Art Competition is on 30th October. The paintings will be judged under the supervision of Ministry of Education Dubai based on creativity, originality and relevance to the theme. Three winners per category will take home exciting prizes, plus consolation prizes for the top 100 students, to be presented in a special awarding ceremony on 27th November at Majestic Ballroom of Ramada Ajman.
