• The ICT Fund Launches The Digital Photography Competition Titled Eye On Technology

    The ICT Fund, a subsidiary of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), has launched a digital photography competition titled “Eye on Technology” through the social networking site, Instagram. The competition aims to enhance the communications within the UAE community in and raise awareness on the importance of the nation’s ICT sector and its impact on the daily life.

    The digital photography competition “Eye on Technology” has designed specifically for students in schools and universities and photography enthusiasts. Participants who are 17 years old or less should use the hash tag #Betha and those who are 18 and above should use #ICTFundUAE, the winner of each category will be granted a prize.

    The competition comes as part of the Betha Program campaign, an initiative of The ICT Fund that aims to enhance the stature and role of the national education sector whilst providing educational opportunities for graduate students both at B.Sc. and M.Sc. level in Information and Communications technology. In order to accomplish the objectives of the campaign, The ICT Fund has taken to social media to motivate students and generate awareness around its offerings.. Via the various social media platforms, The ICT Fund aims to communicate with the students via different social networks sites, which are the most favourite communications networks for the new generation.

    The Betha campaign has seen an increase in the number of student followers and even parents have become engaged with the campaign via social media. In line with a more global trend, Betha’s popularity online is another strong indicator of the decision made by the nation’s youth to increasingly look to communicate through social media.

    “Social media networks have become an effective tool that enables greater cooperation between governmental institutions and the community. We at The ICT Fund are keen to embrace the new and innovative ways to communicate with the community as we continually look to generate greater levels of awareness of the importance of ICT sector. Creating an inter-active environment is vital and will help secure the UAE’s position as a global leader in the field of ICT,” said Dr. Abdulkader Al Khayat, Chairman of Board of Trustees, The ICT Fund.

    “Campaigns of this nature will enhance our communication with future generations and will help realise the ultimate goal of inspiring the UAE’s youth to enter into a career in ICT,” he added.

    The Instagram competition is part of the “Betha” campaign, which aims to generate awareness of the program’s features and to reach out the nation’s cadre in all academic majors which are related to ICT sector in line with the increased needs for the local specialized human resources in this sector annually.

    For those potentially interested in the Betha Program, students should contact the relevant Scholarship Coordination Office at one of the following institutions: American University of Sharjah (AUS), Khalifa University of Science & Technology and Research (KUSTAR), Masdar Institute (MIST), American University in Dubai, Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT), American University in Sharjah, University of Sharjah (UoS) scholarships and American University of Ras Al Khaima (AURAK).
