DEWA Organises 6th Mass Wedding And Celebrates With 39 Employee Grooms And Brides

Under the patronage and in the presence of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has held its sixth Mass Wedding ceremony of 39 employee grooms and brides at Za’beel Park in Dubai under the patronage and in the presence of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Minister of Finance, and President of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and in line with its commitment to support the well-being of its employees.

The ceremony was attended by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy, HE Matar Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of DEWA, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, board members of DEWA, HE Saeed Al Kendi, former Chairman of the Federal National Council, HE Sami Gargash, Executive Director at the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment, HE Khaled Al Kamda, Director General of the Community Development Authority, Ahmed Butti Al Muhairabi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council, Abdullah Jasim Bin Kalban, CEO of Dubal, Dr. Mohammed AL Zarooni, Director General of Dubai Airport Freezone Authority, HE Abdulrahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Ahmed Al Shafar, CEO of Empower, Qasim Sultan, Salem Almoosa, and relatives of the grooms and brides.

The ceremony is in line with our social initiatives which aim to strengthen communication and cooperation among our employees. Through this ceremony, we aim to support our male and female employees by reducing wedding expenses. This initiative will reduce the need for our staff to apply for banks loan, so they will not be required to make the monthly payments for them. This will enable our staff to be debt free when starting a family,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer pointed out that DEWA has placed a high priority on achieving peace of mind and family stability for its employees to enable them to have a better future.

The mass wedding incorporated Emirati heritage as its theme, featuring Emirati traditions derived from its forefathers. Today, UAE Nationals are organising their wedding ceremonies in the same way it used to be in the past.

We are keen to help our employees to reduce their wedding expenses, and support them with this special ceremony,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Chairperson of DEWA’ Women’s Committee.

Al Mehairi added that DEWA continually organises educational and cultural events to raise awareness among its staff. Recently, the Women’s Committee at DEWA held a seminar entitled ‘How to plan for a wedding and reduce its expenses’ to help employees learn how to plan and organise a wedding ceremony.

Several activities took place during the wedding ceremony including Emirati wedding folklore performances, and traditional entertainment.

Al Tayer congratulated all the grooms and brides, and wished them a prosperous and happy married life, and gave them valuable gifts. The grooms and brides thanked DEWA’s management for its generous support.

A number of sponsors provided gifts for the grooms, Five Diamonds Jewellery presented a free consultation session in fashion, and 50% discount vouchers. Al Yousef Electronics also provided 20% discount vouchers on all LG Electronics’ eco-friendly products.

The annual mass wedding is a one of DEWA’s most significant social initiatives. In the past six years, the mass weddings have helped 246 grooms and brides to complete their wedding ceremony by reducing its associated expenses.

DEWA continually collaborates with government departments to launch such initiatives. Recently, DEWA participated in a mass wedding for Dubai’s government departments, which was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Rawda bint Ahmed bin Jomaa Al Maktoum, wife of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, President of DEWA, and included 9 of DEWA’s female employees.
