• HH Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Inaugurates 3rd Heritage Centre

Dubai Culture signs MoU with Dubai Education Zone to develop more heritage centres

In line with the Dubai Culture’s mandate to foster cultural awareness and strengthen Emirati national identity, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, inaugurated the third Heritage Centre at the Sakina Bint Al Hussain School for secondary classes.

Dubai Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, launched these centres to strengthen the awareness of Emirati heritage, through lessons that provide comprehensive insights on the country’s cultural values and traditions. Currently, the Heritage Centres impart educational programmes for over 2,000 students annually, strengthening their national identity.

The launch of the third heritage centre follows the inauguration of the centre at the Al Kuwait Primary School in 2012, and the Al Hudaibah Primary School for kindergarten students 2011.

In line with Authority’s mandate to promote awareness and establish an understanding of the UAE’s heritage, Dubai Culture signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Dubai Education Zone (DEZ), to develop the heritage centres in the Omar Bin Al Khattab Model School, Utbah Bin Ghazwan Primary School, and Zayed Bin Sultan Primary School.

Dr. Ahmad Eid Al Mansouri, Director General of Dubai Education Zone, and Mr. Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture, signed the agreement.

Saeed Al Nabouda said: “Our heritage, passed on from generation to generation, is the primary driver of our growth. To sustain this momentum, it is imperative to preserve our national heritage, as well as foster its true understanding among our youngsters at an early age. By instilling the importance of values and traditions, we are enabling them to further contribute to our evolving cultural scene.”

The Authority, under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, plans to extend the support of the heritage centres by expanding its scope to cover more public and private schools across the Emirate. Details on upcoming heritage centres will be announced in due course.

Underlining the importance of cultural awareness, Dubai Culture launched ‘cultural awareness tours,’ to stimulate dialogue and foster an understanding for the city’s culture and heritage, which will also be organised for the public and Government entities across Dubai, upon request.

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority spearheads and supports several cultural and arts initiatives in Dubai including the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts Awards; the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre; SIKKA Art Fair; and Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, among others which have contributed to establishing Dubai as a cultural hub of the region.
