• The Scene Club Presents ’’20 Cigarettes’’ A Film By Aureliano Amadei

Director Aureliano Amadei to attend the screening

The Scene Club to host its 5th screening of the season with award-winning Italian film 20 CIGARETTES and to welcome film director Aureliano Amadei directly from Italy.

The Scene Club, Dubai’s monthly film club which showcases the best of world independent cinema, will be screening 20 CIGARETTES by Italian director Aureliano Amadei at Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre at 8pm on Tuesday 12th March. Guests are invited to arrive at 7pm for an hour of networking with fellow film enthusiasts and collect their pre-booked complimentary tickets.

Based on director Aureliano Amadei’s 2003 experiences in Iraq, 20 CIGARETTES is the gripping story of a twenty-eight year old anarchist and anti-war activist who receives an offer to fly to Iraq as an assistant director on a film about the Italian military "peace mission". Despite the criticism from his mates and best friend Claudia, and the concerns of his family, Aureliano heads off.

Thrust into the middle of a military world he doesn’t approve of, Aureliano is surprised to discover a brotherhood and shared values amongst the people he meets.

Before Aureliano has the chance to finish a packet of cigarettes, he finds himself caught up in the attack on the Nassirya army barracks on 12 November 2003. The only civilian to survive the attack that has killed nineteen Italians, Aureliano is seriously injured but manages to get himself to safety.

A witness and victim of the event, he spends long periods in hospital, receiving a constant stream of visits from politicians, the military and journalists because, in the meantime, he has become an accidental hero.

With the help of Claudia, Aureliano undergoes the transformation from “boy” to “man”.

With its ironic humour, 20 CIGARETTES offers a different take on the war in Iraq than American movies. It’s clear to see why this is also one of only a handful of European films that explores this subject matter.

20 CIGARETTES won an astonishing 18 international awards, including: Golden Globes Italy for Best First Feature in 2011, Young Cinema Award for Best Italian Film and Controcampo Italiano Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2010, and the David of the Youth Award at the David di Donatello Awards in 2011 (the Italian equivalent to the Academy Awards).

The Scene Club will be honored to host Director Aureliano Amadei for an open Q&A session after the screening.

Tickets are complimentary but guests must register in advance at www.thesceneclub.com and then collect them from the Registration Desk at Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre from 7.00pm on the night of the screening. Guests are encouraged to arrive on time as seating is offered on a “first come, first served” basis. The Scene Club Networking Lounge is also open from 7.00pm to all registered guests.
