• Celebrity Chef Violet Oon Brings A Taste Of Singapore To Gulfood 2013

Singapore’s leading food ambassador highlights growing popularity of Singapore cuisine in Middle East

Celebrated Singaporean Master Chef Violet Oon is proving to be one of the star attractions at this year’s Gulfood 2013, as she tantalises the collective taste buds of visitors to the world’s largest annual food trade show, taking place in Dubai until 28th February 2013.

Preparing a series of signature dishes that include the country’s famous Chilli Crab, Chicken Rice, Singapore Satay and Laksa, Chef Violet is conducting live cooking demonstrations at the “Best in Asia” pavilion.

One of Singapore’s most respected food experts, a cookbook author and popular TV personality, Chef Violet is a master of Singapore Peranakan food – a marriage of Malay and Chinese flavours, and travels the world to share the country’s internationally renowned cuisine. Signature dishes prepared by Chef Violet during her live cooking demonstrations at Singapore’s “Best in Asia” pavilion include Chilli Crab, Chicken Rice, Singapore Satay and Laksa, using the authentic, readymade ingredients being showcased by the 40-plus Singaporean exhibitors at Gulfood.

“Singapore’s ethnic diversity and heritage of Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures is what makes the country’s cuisine so vibrant. This fusion of flavours has made our national dishes appealing to palates around the world,” said Chef Violet Oon. “I am thrilled to share how to make authentic Singaporean cuisine using convenient, healthy and Halal-certified products. We hope people are inspired to bring a taste of Singapore into their homes using new, hassle-free products that are now available in the Middle East.”

“The demand for Singapore products in the region is growing significantly due to constant innovations in our F&B industry. Gulfood is the ideal platform to regionally launch Singapore’s latest convenient, healthy and Halal-certified products allowing us to provide practical solutions to usually complicated Singaporean recipes,” said Lester Lu, Regional Director for International Enterprise (IE) Singapore in Dubai, the government agency driving Singapore’s external economy by promoting overseas investments of Singaporean companies and international trade.

Chef Violet’s live cooking demonstrations will take place three times a day until 28th February at the Singapore pavilion located in Hall 7 of the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Singapore pavilion is organised by the Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association (SFMA) with the support of IE and the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMF).
