• Moms Discuss Entrepreneurial Opportunities At Mom Souq’s Mompreneur Meet-Up

Business savvy mom entrepreneurs met yesterday during Mom Souq’s monthly Mompreneur Meet-Up. The event was held at the Dubai Ladies Club to discuss strategies and potential partnerships to help each other build their respective businesses.

The Mompreneur Meet-Up initiative is ideal for start-ups run by moms in the region, and was designed specifically to provide mom entrepreneurs with the necessary support and connections to develop their passions and ideas into a profitable and sustainable business.

Mona Tavassoli, Founder of Mom Souq, said: “The Mompreneur Meet-Up was designed to introduce hard working mom entrepreneurs of the UAE to each other to learn how to capitalize on numerous opportunities and tackle the challenges faced when running a small business. With a consistent increase in attendance and positive feedback, we can state that each Meet-Up adds increasing value to the mother entrepreneurs of the UAE.”

Mompreneurs that have previously attended this networking event have already formed strategic alliances to support and further build each other’s businesses.

Farah Anwar, Founder and Managing Director of Ashraf Electronics Trading, said: “At the first Mompreneur Meet-Up, we met the owner of Mylist.ae, an online gift registry website that sells a variety of products. At the Meet-Up, we had discussed a potential business opportunity and have since been working together as partners. We are now the official electronic suppler for Mylist.ae. Now, if people want to gift anything electronic to themselves or their loved ones, they do not necessarily need to purchase it from us. Instead, they can go to Mylist.ae and order anything they like. By doing so, we help Mylist.ae become a one-stop-shop for products across all categories and grow our electronics business as well.”

In addition to providing mothers with a networking opportunity, each event has an expert speaker that can help Mompreneurs add value to their business.

Kay Braganza, Managing Director, The Public Relations Company (TPRC), gave the Mompreneurs an insightful presentation on: the role of public relations in organisations; benefits of public relations; and how and why organisations must strategically communicate with consumers via traditional and social media channels with good planning and effective management.

Attendees have praised Mom Souq’s initiatives, especially the Mompreneur Meet-Up as it has helped them build strong relationships whilst collectively building a market of niche products for mothers and parents.

Among those that attended included: Farida Daruwala, Distributor of ShuPeas ; Laure Sejean, Co-Founder of Allbymykid.com; Emma Vella, Dubai Franchise Owner of Smallprint and more.

Emirates NBD, strategic partner for Mom Souq, was present at the Mompreneur Meet-Up to provide mom entrepreneurs with the necessary help and convenience in opening a bank account and applying for credit cards.

Mom Souq is proud to be supported by KidsFest, Barton Portraits, Dubai Ladies Club, Tim Hortons and The Public Relations Company (TPRC).

The next gathering of inspirational mother Entrepreneurs will be at the Mompreneur Market during the 2013 Kidsfest held at the Festival Park in Dubai Festival City from 8 – 9 March 2013.
