• RTA Honours DEWA For Support To Dubai Award For Sustainable Transport

    Award shows DEWA’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation in Dubai

    The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) today honoured Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for its support for the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport, at an awards ceremony held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

    DEWA was honoured for its support in the success of the Awards initiative, which has been expanded to include various governmental and semi-governmental departments and entities to further drive sustainable transportation in the UAE. The Awards ceremony was organised by the RTA and held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, and honoured various organisations for their commitment to promoting sustainable practices in the transport sector.

    HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, presented the memento to Khawla Al Mehairi, VP of Marketing and Corporate Communications at DEWA, who received it on behalf of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

    “DEWA has been committed to be a sustainable organisation based on our vision to become a sustainable world-class utility. We support national initiatives that underline the guidelines and values of sustainability, in line with the ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ initiative outlined by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance build a sustainable future for Dubai,” said Al Tayer.

    “Our efforts to achieve sustainability have been honoured internationally. Recently, we achieved the highest ranking in our efforts towards sustainability by winning the Globe of Honour Award for Environment, awarded by The British Safety Council. DEWA is the first utility in the Middle East to win this award. DEWA is also the first organisation in the Middle East to win the Five Star Certificate in the Environment category. Today, DEWA leads the region in preserving natural resources to create a better future for generations to come. DEWA has also effectively contributed to the sustainable development of Dubai on social, economic and environmental levels by providing electricity and water at the highest levels of availability, efficiency and reliability. DEWA protects the environment and conserves natural resources in all its current and future projects to create a better future for us all,” added Al Tayer.

    Al Mehairi commended the RTA for its efforts to strengthen awareness and adoption of sustainability best practices. He underlined the importance of both the public and private sectors further strengthen their efforts to support sustainable growth and fulfil Dubai’s vision to be a globally recognised as a sustainable city.

    The Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport supports the sustainable development of Dubai’s transport infrastructure and the role of various public and private sector organisations in strengthening awareness and implementation of sustainable transportation for society.
