• H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Becomes The Official Royal Patron Of DUCTAC’s Alternative Art Platform Mind/Body

Exhibition to feature work by acclaimed Emirati artists Hassan Sharif, Abdalla Al Sa’adi and Ebtisam Abdulaziz

Curated by Italian artist and writer Cristiana de Marchi

Celebrated Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem (featured artist at the UAE Pavilion for the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013) to exhibit artworks in the exhibition and also take on advisory role.

H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, recently extended his royal patronage to DUCTAC’s (Dubai Community Theatre & Art Centre’s) annual alternative art platform MinD. Now in its fourth year, MinD (Made in Dubai) features work by local artists using contemporary media and conceptual approaches to art making. The exhibition will be officially inaugurated by H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan on Wednesday 6th March at 7.30pm

MinD/Body is curated by Dubai-based Italian artist, curator and writer Cristiana de Marchi. The exhibition will explore the role of the body and self-censorship in contemporary art from the Gulf to investigate the creative and exhibitive freedom of the artist. De Marchi said of the exhibition concept: "Body Art without body might be a pure paradox, but it is worth a thought in a region where the depiction of the body is culturally banished".

The MinD initiative serves to advance the cultural dialogue within Dubai - to encourage fresh thinking and to open up new ways of viewing and appreciating contemporary art in the UAE.

DUCTAC’s General Manager, Joseph Fowler, said of the royal patronage:

"We are extremely privileged to have H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan as patron of the MinD/Body exhibition. The honour of this patronage is certainly indicative of the ever increasing significance of the annual MinD exhibition and we hope that H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan’s support will serve to further highlight the quality and development of art in the UAE."

MinD/Body will see experimental artworks in a range of media (including video, installation, painting, photography and performance art) showcased throughout the DUCTAC complex. The show will feature work by 16 artists, including Hassan Sharif, winner of the John Jones Art on Paper Award at Art Dubai in 2012, Mohammed Kazem, who will be a featured artist at the UAE Pavilion for the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013, Palestinian-Kuwaiti artist Tarek Al Ghusein and acclaimed Emirati artist Ebtisam Abdulaziz.
