• Dubai Taxi Steps Up Fleet Operational Efficiency To 96.39% In 2012

    4 million trips made lifting 70.7 m passengers last year

    The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has executed last year 40,776,316 trips at a rate of 3,389,693 trips per month, during which 70,776,788 passengers were lifted at a rate of 5,898,066 passengers per month, in addition to serving a host of events across the Dubai Emirate.

    Narrating the statistics of the Fleet Operations Dep’t, Mohammed Yousef Salih, Director of DTC Fleet Operations, said: “DTC operational efficiency topped 96.39% in 2012 compared with 95.52% in 2011 reflecting an improvement of 0.78%. The total number of trips made in 2011 amounted to 37 million trips. Various DTC sections stand ready to cope with the daily needs of the fleet in terms of repair and cleaning of 3504 taxicabs distributed as follows: Airport Taxi: 350 cabs, Hatta Taxi: 3 cabs, Ladies Taxi: 50 cabs, and Commission Taxi: 3101 cabs.

    “In the context of efforts made to achieve the requisites of security, safety and environment at the internal fleet maintenance workshop, 3 oil collection containers have been installed to prevent oil leaking in the ground, 3 tire air pressure gauges have been provided. The DTC has also bought equipment for dismantling and installing shock absorbers in a bid to improve the work procedure, improve the technical & technological efficiency of the workshop, and provide all the requisite accessories & services,” he continued.

    “About 58,876 preventive maintenance jobs have been completed in 2012 at the internal workshop compared with 53,900 jobs made in 2011 recording an increase of about 9%. The number of remedial (corrective) maintenance reached 23,370 jobs last year recording an increase of 7.9% compared with last year figures. 98% of total maintenance jobs have been carried internally last year, and 86% of cabs sustaining accidents have been repaired in the internal workshop. The maintenance process covers everything that enhances the level of service and overall appearance of the vehicle; which in turn will improve the customers satisfaction. As part of the services, around 600 vehicles are cleaned internally every month and 1500 vehicles are washed every day.

    “In the context of polishing the skills of the staff in the Dep’t, the DTC coordinated with the strategic partners to hold training workshops for technical staff at the internal workshop in order to step up their efficiency and improve their performance throughout the year in a way that contributes to the enhanced work process and achieving the DTC’s visions of pioneers in passengers transport services.

    “The Dep’t has also accomplished a number of achievements, services, facilities and initiatives targeting customers which include for instance: launching VIP service under the theme “Redefining Transport Luxury” by deploying 20 black cabs (10 of Infiniti M 37 make, and 10 of Lexus S 350 make) under the patronage of the Arabian Automobiles Company, and Al Futtaim Motors. It also supported Dubai Airports with distinguished services to DTC customers in a bid to raise their satisfaction. The DTC also launched Mashaweer initiative for renting cabbies to interested entities (companies and individuals) for a specific time and criteria, and also unveiled an initiative offering customers postpaid payment vouchers against their use of DTC taxicabs.

    “The Dep’t intended to motivate cabbies and encourage them cater to the cleaning of the vehicle and the polite treatment of customers through launching Thank You (Shukran) Card for cabbies; which are granted to them at the work place during site tours made by Directors, Managers and Specialists in the DTC to assembly points of cabbies. Through this card, the driver can take part in monthly draws whereby the winner gets Dh2500, and the second gets Dh1500 and the third walks away with Dh1000 cash grants.

    “The Dep’t is working on a program for saving the maintenance costs of vehicles through rehabilitating repairable spare parts, and encouraging employees to use safety & security means in their daily routines. It also continuously seeks to run motivational initiatives for employees such as the (Administrative, Technical and Site) Employee of the Month and involving them otherwise in using Suggestion Boxes to encourage them and embed in them the spirit of competitiveness and innovation.
