• The Scene Club Presenting ’Three Quarter Moon’ A Film By Christian Zubert

The Scene Club, Dubai’s monthly film club which showcases the best of world independent cinema, will be screening THREE QUARTER MOON by German director Christian Zübert at Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre at 8pm on Tuesday 12th February. Guests are invited to arrive at 7pm for an hour of networking with fellow film enthusiasts and collect their pre-booked tickets.

Irritable cabbie Hartmut has one more thing to complain about when he discovers his wife is leaving him after 30 years. Stubbornness has finally driven a permanent wedge between the man and his most important relationships, those with his wife and adult daughter.

One day, six-year-old Hayat, a Turkish girl who doesn’t yet know German, climbs into his taxi. Her mother is a performer who’ll be leaving town and Hayat is supposed to stay with her grandmother for a few weeks. Fate, however, intervenes once she crosses paths with the grumpy Hartmut.

The equally stubborn girl disarms the crinkly old man, as well as the audience with her precocious performance. Little does he suspect it may also be a case of the little girl helping the big grouch to learn to enjoy life again. Soon, the joyless monotony of Hartmut’s life is replaced with the relief and purpose that comes from caring for another.

This endearing ‘dramedy’ (drama/comedy) shows how change sometimes comes when, and from where, you least expect it.

After working as a screenwriter for German Television, Christian Zübert made his feature debut in 2001 with Lammbock. Zübert followed several TV movies and series with the 2005 Award-winning film Treasure of the White Falcon, followed by 2008’s Hard Cover.

Three Quarter Moon won the Best Screenplay award at the 2011 Bavarian Film Award as well as an international premier at Dubai International Film Festival in 2011 and a nomination in the Outstanding Feature Film category at the 2012 German Film Awards. Mercan-Fatima Türköglu, the young actress playing Hayat, won the Talent category at the 2012 BAMBI Awards, Germany’s most important media awards.

The Scene Club will be pleased to welcome Ipek Zübert, the film co-writer, for a Q&A session at the end of the screening. Ipek pitched the idea of the film to husband Christian and together they brought a notion into motion picture. Ipek also found and coached the young actress Mercan to play Hayat.

Tickets are complimentary but guests must register in advance at www.sceneclub.com and then collect them from the Registration Desk at Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre from 7.00pm on the night of the screening. Guests are encouraged to arrive on time as seating is offered on a “first come, first served” basis. The Scene Club Networking Lounge is also open from 7.00pm to all registered guests.
