The talks will host experts from the renowned Royal College of Art along with acclaimed speakers, artists, authors and curators from the arts and culture industry in the UK and UAE.

The series of talks has been created to start a discussion on the benefits of placing art in the public sphere and the positive impact that it brings to the creative sector, the local community and the overall physical environment either temporarily or permanently.

The second discussion panel will debate the challenges and regulations faced by public art. It will discuss the challenges artists and governments face when placing art in public spaces, the negative connotations of some forms of public art and the reasons why street art is now increasingly on display in commercial galleries.

Carine Rizk from British Council commented: “With the UAE thriving arts and culture scene and a unique multicultural society, we believe that now is the right time to hold a debate about placing art in the public realm given the dramatic growth of the medium and its crucial role in shaping a city’s creative and social identity.”

The discussion panel will be held at the Jumeirah Creek Side Hotel at 3:00pm and will be followed by a networking event at 19:00. For more information, please visit: http://www.britishcouncil.org/me
