• "THE AGELESS" First Of Its Kind Classic Car Race To Take Place In The UAE

Authentic cars tour the UAE in a five-day cross-country Regularity Race

DM Cube – a UAE-based design, corporate branding communications and sports event management company – announced today the launch of "THE AGELESS Mythical Cars Tour UAE 2013", a regularity race scheduled to take place across the UAE from December 9 to 13, 2013.

The approximately 1000 km race will see 150 authentic classic cars drive across the roads of the UAE starting from the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, and make their way across different emirates to come full circle for a finish in Abu Dhabi.

Patrizia Azzariti, Founder and Managing Director of DM Cube comments: “The UAE has become a hub for unique sporting events due to the availability of state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. It has been nurturing an ability to deliver international standards that never ceases to exceed expectations.”

“There are a large number of classic car owners and enthusiasts in the region and we want to give them the chance to experience driving these cars in a professional race set-up,” she adds. “These owners have taken meticulous care of these ‘ageless’ cars, preserving their glory for decades later. As these classics wind their way through the race – making their way from private collections, people have a chance to admire them like art on display at a museum. And, there’s no better setup than the UAE, with its great roads and breath-taking skylines; the country serves as a beautiful backdrop for their premier.”

Regularity racing is also known as Time Speed Distance rallying, whereby the objective of the race is not to speed past the competition but to maintain specific times with precise average speeds on a predefined route. Usually conducted on public roads, the streets of the UAE will be raced by international brands including Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Bugatti, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lancia, Maserati, Mercedes Benz and Porsche. Participation in the race will be by exclusive invitation only and gather 150 high-profile drivers that include celebrities, prominent international jetsetters, reputable businessmen and passionate collectors of classic cars from the GCC and the rest of the world.

“The regularity race is not a competition that requires rallying at high speeds; it’s a more technical race with precise rules to respect. Competitors will encounter Regularity and Navigation sections that allow both crew and drivers the chance to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the country. A combination of competition and an enjoyable experience, make this a fabulous opportunity to enjoy all that the UAE has to offer,” added Azzariti.

The competition will be run in compliance with the International Automobile Federation FIA – that adopts and implements common regulations for all forms of motor sports across the world, and FIVA – the International Federation of Ancient Vehicles – an international assembly that defines, preserves and maintains road vehicles that are at least 30 years old. The Automobile and Touring Club in the UAE will ensure the success of the event by handling all regulation procedures, sporting and technical.

Dr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the UAE Automobile & Touring Club commented: “The UAE has made its mark in the automotive genre by playing host to international exhibitions of the sport that include the UAE Rally, Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi and the 24Hour Race in Dubai. We are thrilled to be able to add another unique event to this roster, one that has all the right elements to become an annual event. We are confident that all involved will have a truly enjoyable experience, drawing in both a national and international audience. ”

Following the race, the cars – which have been divided into different age classes, will compete for another win. A committee of key figures in motor sports will elect a winner in each age group, not for the beauty of the car but for the intrinsic technical innovations exhibited in the model (Concourse Technique). Finally, the official “THE AGELESS” trophy will go to the winner of the ultimate race.

Claudio Barro, Operation Director at DM Cube, commented: “The event will be open to authentic cars made before the 31st of December 1970, categorised by age. The selection will be made by those who understand the ins and outs of these cars, thereby ensuring quality in the selection process.”

The open day on the 8th of December, in Yas Marina Circuit, will include technical checks – of the likes of Lucio De Mori who acted as clerk for the famous Mille Miglia race – car shake down and time trial tests to ensure that all cars meet the required specifications to participate in the event. This will be followed by the official opening ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

The first leg starts on the 9th of December at Yas Marina Circuit. The second day sees drivers making their way to Al Ain from where they take off for the third leg of the race. The longest drive will see drivers going to Ras Al-Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah and making a final stop at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. On day four, drivers head back to Abu Dhabi for the official final leg of the race. The closing ceremony will be held on the evening of Friday, December 13th.

Richard Cregan, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit, commented: “It’s always exciting to see different types of racing come to the attention of people in the region, creating new fans and enthusiasts for the circuit. We are used to seeing the fastest cars on our track, and it will be a novelty to see such a different take on speed and record times. Certainly, the juxtaposition of classic cars on one of the most advanced circuits in the world will be something not to be missed.”

Succeeding the legendary race is an all-day auction that will be held on the 13th of December at the Emirates Palace. 70 cars will be participating in the auction and they will be displayed a few days before the event to be appreciated and enjoyed by the attendees.

Azzariti concluded: “Happening for the first time in the region, the UAE is the ideal location to host this unique regularity race. As a premier destination for luxury car showcasing and motorsports, we aim to grow this event into an annual competition across different GCC countries, and for it to become part of the International FIA Calendar.”
