DUBAL Guests Join World’s Best Golfers In 22Nd Year Of Sponsorship

Aluminium giant invites business partners to play in 2013 Omega Dubai Desert Classic Pro-Am

As the partner sponsor of the 2013 Omega Dubai Desert Classic Golf Tournament (“the Omega DDC”), Dubai Aluminium (“DUBAL”) entered six teams in the Omega DDC Pro-Am tournament on Wednesday 30 January 2013, thus allowing 18 of the company’s guests — both customers and suppliers — to play a round of golf with the world’s top players.

“Following the traditional draw, our guests played alongside top golfers such as Westwood, Couples and so on,” says Walid Al Attar (Executive Vice President: Marketing & Sales). “This represents a prime opportunity for these golf enthusiasts to mingle with the best. It also allows us to express DUBAL’s corporate appreciation for the value added to our company by the excellence-based partnerships developed with these individuals and their companies over the years.”

Widely acknowledged as the industrial flagship of the UAE, DUBAL was established in 1979. The DUBAL smelter complex, built on a dedicated 480-hectare site in Jebel Ali, has the capacity to produce more than one million metric tonnes of molten metal per year – making it the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelter using pre-baked anodes. The company also owns 50 per cent of Emirates Aluminium (“EMAL”) in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, where EMAL Phase I has been fully operational for two years, and produced 780,000 metric tonnes in 2012. Construction of EMAL Phase II, which will increase EMAL’s total production capacity to 1.3 million tonnes per year, began mid-2011. In addition, DUBAL holds shares in upstream development projects.

Importantly, the Omega DDC 2013 marks the 22nd consecutive year that DUBAL has been a major sponsor of the internationally acclaimed, world-class event (the first occasion having been in 1992). Reinforced by the Pro-Am tournament, DUBAL’s involvement in the Omega DDC each year has helped promote the company as a world-class industrial enterprise, locally and internationally. “Each year, DUBAL demonstrates the company’s genuine interest in its customers and representatives from across the globe by inviting them to the golf tournament in Dubai. The advantages of gathering them in one place are then leveraged,” Al Attar explains. “Scheduled business meetings coincident with the tournament allow us to build on our existing long-term relationships and consolidate our business plans. A comprehensive social programme is also arranged for our guests during their stay in Dubai, providing ample opportunity to experience our traditional Arabian hospitality.”

Based on previous experience, the investment over the years has been richly rewarding. “Our customers, suppliers, representatives and other business partners love Dubai and look forward to the Omega DDC each year. They are also intensely loyal to DUBAL,” says Al Attar. “DUBAL has dealt with many of its customers since inception, i.e. over 30 years.”

Al Attar adds that DUBAL remains committed to supporting sporting events in the city that contribute to the socio-economic development society. “We are pleased to lend our corporate support to the community at large, especially through world-class platforms, such as the Omega DDC,” he says. “Accordingly, DUBAL is also a partner sponsor of the annual Dubai Ladies Masters and supports horse racing and jet-ski racing within the UAE.”
