• Mediclinic Middle East To Expand Presence At Dubai Healthcare City With Dhs200m Extension Of Mediclinic City Hospital

Mediclinic Middle East, the UAE’s largest private healthcare company, announced its plans to expand its current presence at Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) with an extension to Mediclinic City Hospital on a plot adjacent to its current location at DHCC.

Mediclinic City Hospital, a Joint Commission International accredited facility, was the first multi-speciality hospital to open in DHCC in 2008 and since then has provided a benchmark for international-standard medical services in the UAE.

The 200,000 square feet expansion project, worth an estimated Dhs200m, will see the facility expand its existing operations in the integrated healthcare free zone to house an advanced oncology unit with radiotherapy facilities, including a PET CT scanner and linear accelerator. It will also include outpatient suites, an outpatient dialysis unit, an expanded Reference laboratory servicing the entire Mediclinic Middle East group, a day care unit (theatre and ward), a rehabilitation centre and Mediclinic Middle East corporate offices. The new facility will also feature a three-level car park for patient convenience.

Dr Tarek Fathey, Director of Mediclinic Hospital said: "We are delighted to be commissioning this state-of-the-art facility which will bring the standard of healthcare available in the UAE to a whole new level. The planned oncology unit, with the very latest diagnostic and therapeutic modalities will, in particular, fill a huge gap in services currently available to residents of the UAE and the Middle East region as a whole. It will be built in association with our sister company in Switzerland, Hirslanden, which has a history dating back to 1934 and is known as one of Europe’s leading cancer centres. In addition, all those involved in the unit will travel to Switzerland for extensive training."

By relocating some units from Mediclinic City Hospital to the new facility, extra capacity will be created in Mediclinic City Hospital’s main building which will be utilised to add approximately 12 ICU beds, 22 general beds, two operating theatres and will free up 15 additional consulting rooms. The project is expected to be completed by early 2015.

David Hadley, CEO, Mediclinic Middle East commented: "The expansion of Mediclinic City Hospital represents significant investment by Mediclinic Middle East into the UAE’s healthcare sector, and is testament to our commitment to support the rulers’ vision for a world-class healthcare system in this country which is also a regional hub for medical tourism."

Marwan Abedin, CEO, Dubai Healthcare City said "We are delighted to welcome the expansion of Mediclinic City Hospital in DHCC. Since 2008 the facility has contributed to diversifying our healthcare offering and supported our efforts to provide world-class treatment for the people of Dubai. DHCC is now home to over 3,700 licensed healthcare professionals and over 120 internationally acclaimed medical centers. Through the support of facilities like Mediclinic City Hospital, DHCC has consistently achieved high patient satisfaction levels across 90 specialties. Mediclinic City Hospital’s investment in the latest technology aims to provide patients with access to the very best treatment, across a diverse range of specialties. This demonstrates a shared commitment to positioning DHCC as a global leader in healthcare and a leading destination for patients seeking treatment in the region and beyond."
