• DSF 2013 Invites The World’s Media To Witness ’Dubai At Its Best’

As part of its yearly endeavour to promote the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) on distant shores, the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of the Department of Economic Development and organizers of DSF, has invited a number of regional and international journalists to visit the 18th edition of the festival this year and report about it in their respective countries.

Organised in association with two of the festival’s traditional partners - Emirates Airline and the Jumeirah Group - who have extended their support to the DSF this year as well, the aim of the initiative is to popularize the festival in various countries around the world and showcase “Dubai at its Best” to the global media.

The first group of arrivals comprises journalists from four top publications, who reached Dubai in time to witness the opening ceremony of the DSF 2013 which took place at the Dubai Creek on January 3. Each week of the festival, the DEPE will be welcoming a different group of journalists from leading publications around the world with the focus being on travel and tourism news.

The visiting journalists have a packed, informative and meaningful itinerary chalked out for them that will enable them to maximize their coverage of the event. Their four-day stay will include a meeting with DEPE representatives in addition to meetings with government departments and representatives from key private sector companies, who are involved in DSF 2013 as Strategic Partners. A focus of their itinerary will be meetings with key personnel that will highlight how the huge support from government entities, as well as participation of the private sector, have made the DSF successful every year since it started in 1996.

The journalists will also be given guided tours of the key locations of DSF 2013 in order for them to get a first hand view of the festivities, activities, cultural events and other celebrations of the festival, as well as tourism landmarks in Dubai.

The DEPE’s Media Centre said the aim behind these media trips was to promote Dubai during DSF and for the global media to witness, experience and report on the festival from their own perspectives.

“Once the visiting journalists saw for themselves first hand the various activities, events and celebrations that Dubai hosts during the festival, as well as the international audience that descends on the city to enjoy the 32-day festival, they would be in the best position to promote DSF in their own countries to attract more tourists to Dubai”, the media office said.

It added that Dubai is experiencing major developments at all levels, from economic and social to cultural and educational, and the city has the best environment to make visitors from all parts of the world feel warmly welcomed. The DEPE, through its Media Centre, will continue to reach out to the media from all parts of the globe and host international journalists in order to communicate to them the full picture of Dubai – one of the best tourist destinations on the planet.
