• Dubai Events And Promotions Establishment Announces First Ever Dubai International Comedy Carnival During DSF 2013

The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of the Department of Economic Development, and organizers of Dubai Shopping Festival, announced today the first ever Dubai International Comedy Carnival, a new inclusion to the array of events being held at the on-going DSF 2013.

Announcing the inaugural event at a press conference held at the InterContinental Hotel Dubai Festival City, Khadija Mohammed Ali Turki, Senior Manager, Strategic PR and Media Relations at the DEPE, said the move to introduce this new event, which will take place from January 22nd to 26th at the Dubai Festival City, is in keeping with the DSF’s tradition of raising the bar continuously by bringing the best shows and events to the city during the month-long celebration of “Dubai at its Best”. The aim behind the Dubai International Comedy Carnival is also to build a strong community and urban arts scene in Dubai and create more opportunities for local artists to showcase their creativity.

“As a trend-setter in the events industry, DEPE is very proud to present the Dubai International Comedy Carnival, especially since it is a new concept that is being introduced to this part of the world, and that too at the Dubai Shopping Festival,” Ms. Turki said.

“Art and theatre are intrinsic to the cultural and social fabric of the UAE, as it draws on the rich heritage of people from different nationalities who live here, and we believe that the Dubai International Comedy Carnival featuring several renowned names is an ideal launching pad for showcasing the exceptional artistic talents of the East and West that exist in abundance in the UAE and region,” Ms. Turki said.

Dubomedy’s Arts’ Founder and CEO, Ali Al Sayed, who will also feature in the Carnival, described his organization as a group of artists who want to build a strong platform and community for comedy in Dubai and encourage local talent by training them and giving them opportunities to showcase their talent. He added that Dubomedy Arts also provides professional training in the performing arts and puts on original productions around the region.

Al Sayed said the event will feature some well-known international and regional comedians performing in Dubai. Some of the famous names to grace the comic stage will be Michael Winslow, Dean Obeidallah and Mina Liccione and Aaron Kader. Comedians from the region to feature in the Carnival will be Amro Qatamesh, Nemr Abou Nasser and Bader Saleh, apart from Al Sayed himself.

In addition, Al Sayed said, the Dubai International Comedy Carnival will not only feature standup comedy shows but also have a GCC break dance competition, and amateur stand-up comedy competition, a Rock music competition for schools, a make-your-own film competition, music performances by local bands, and much more.
