• DSF 2013 To Open With Glittering Ceremony On Dubai Creek

Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of the Department of Economic Development, and organisers of Dubai Shopping Festival, has made elaborate arrangements to usher in the 18th edition of DSF with an opening ceremony of unprecedented beauty and splendor centred around the city’s lifeline – the Dubai Creek.

In the evening of January 3, and under the theme of ’Join us where it all started…’, the tranquil Creek – that historic and emotional nerve centre of Dubai and the place from where the city rose from humble beginnings to become an international centre of excellence – will shimmer and shine with the reflected glow of fireworks, and fantastic music and dance performances on its very waters.

Four locations chosen along its historic banks will come alive on the inaugural day of DSF 2013, a celebration of the best that Dubai has to offer, as encapsulated in its slogan: ’Dubai at its Best’. The Heritage and Diving Village, Al Seef Street, the Creek Park and the Festival Promenade at Dubai Festival City will all be transformed into centres of celebration and activities that befit the occasion.

From its small beginnings as a cluster of pearling settlements on the shores of Dubai Creek, or Khor Dubai, the city has grown in every direction and in all spheres in a short period of time to embrace a vibrant present that makes it the cynosure of the world and a beacon for the best in everything it touches. It is this legacy and heritage of excellence that will be celebrated at the gala opening ceremony in which Dubai puts its best foot forward to welcome visitors from all over the world to a month-long fiesta of shopping, winning and entertainment.

Floating decorated tableaus of performers will sail down the creek delivering stunning aerial and acrobatic performances over the water with a unique projection screen made out of a fine jet spray of the creek’s water displaying the images and sights of the festival right in the middle of the Dubai Creek. And the fireworks announcing the festival’s arrival that will be set off from the Al Seef Street area and the Festival Promenade will set the evening alight, bathing the city’s famous skyline in multi-coloured lights and sparkle.

All four areas on the creek chosen for the opening ceremony will then carry on with their range of DSF activities. The Festival Promenade will feature the amusement park-style DSF Fun Fair, the heritage Bedouin Lifestyle Camp, fireworks and performers and clowns. Apart from the fireworks, Al Seef Street will host the Tea Oasis, World of Souvenirs and the DSF carnival featuring roaming performers. Meanwhile, the Heritage and Diving Village will present the glorious past with cultural and folklore performances while the Dubai Creek Park will enthrall families and children with a variety of acrobats, jugglers, stilt walkers, clowns and other performers.

This colourful and nostalgic beginning to DSF 2013 will be the starting point of a rollicking time for both the city’s tourists and residents, from which they will effortlessly carry home memories that last a lifetime.
