SCAFA, The School Of Culinary And Finishing Arts, Opens Its Doors In JLT
SCAFA, The School of Culinary and Finishing Arts, now offers a range of courses in its newly opened teaching facility in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai. Complete with SCAFÉ, a quaint French bistro, and highly qualified Chef Instructors, SCAFA offers professional and enthusiast cooking classes for all ages and levels of experience.
SCAFA brings a unique enterprise to the JLT community as the only culinary vocational institute licenced by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority of the Dubai government (KHDA), illustrating the school’s elite qualifications for professional and enthusiast programmes with world-class Chef Instructors. Priding themselves on their friendly, intimate classes, the SCAFA facility includes demonstration and kitchen labs, and a bespoke French bistro open to the general public and that also serves as a training resource for students.
The Professional Certificate Programme
Aspiring chefs can arrive as novices and leave with professional expertise thanks to this course. Learning a culinary vocabulary in classical French cooking and showcasing their masterpieces at SCAFÉ, all students will be equipped to work at entry-level positions in restaurants and will receive a Government attestable certificate upon completion of the course. The programme starts on 6 January and runs over a six month period. The cost of the course is AED 55,000 per student.
Home Pro Course
Learn the tricks of the trade with this professional course, which is an abbreviated version of the Professional Certificate Course covering similar techniques including Baking and Pastry skills. The course is taught over a period of three months with 40 classes and costs AED 18,000 per person. The next Home Pro course starts on 3 December.
The Fundamentals of Cooking Series
Similar to the skills learnt on the Professional Certificate Programme, this course is the perfect choice for those with limited time and seeking to possess a well-rounded culinary education. The course teaches a variety of techniques from Knife Skills to Desserts. The course runs over a five week period with 10 classes taught every Sunday and Tuesday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. The next course starts on 28 October and costs AED 4,500 per person.
Enthusiast Courses
The enthusiast courses are ideal for those that have a passion for cooking and are looking to master new culinary techniques in a professional environment. The enthusiast courses include world-cuisine, lifestyle, pastry and finishing arts courses. The programmes vary from one to four classes of approximately three hours, ranging from AED 250 to 600 per class.
Children’s Courses
SCAFA offers a variety of courses for kids with both learning and fun at the forefront of the teaching techniques. The courses are split into two age groups, 6 to 9 years olds and 10 to 15 year olds, and teach a range of basic and more advanced skills, alongside learning table manners, etiquette and hygiene. The next children’s classes available as part of the Mini-Master Chef course are on 27 October, 3, 10 and 24 November and each class is AED 225 per class per child.
SCAFÉ
The light and breezy French Bistro café is within the SCAFA facility serving contemporary European cuisine alongside the creations of the professional students. SCAFÉ also offers daily specials that have travelled the world, from South America to Asia, along with dedicated food weeks such as Truffle Week.
