Dubai Healthcare City Announces ’Patients Beyond Borders: Dubai Edition’ At Arabian Travel Market 2011

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah To Highlight Dubai’s Potential To Grow As Global Medical Tourism Destination At Panel Discussion

Dubai Healthcare City, a member of TECOM Investments’ Sciences Cluster, today announced it is set to publish a 156-page guidebook titled ‘Patients beyond Borders: Dubai Edition’.

The announcement came as part of DHCC’s participation at the Arabian Travel Market 2011 (ATM 2011).

Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director of TECOM Investments’ Sciences Cluster, said: “Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) is pleased to announce its initiative to publish ‘Patients Beyond Borders: Dubai Edition’, in collaboration with Healthy Travel Media. The 156-page guidebook, which will be published in English and Arabic for international distribution, offers an in-depth overview of JCI-accredited hospitals, select health travel agents, accommodations, and essential medical travel information in Dubai.”

The industry’s leading travel and tourism exhibition, ATM 2011opened on 2 May and will run until 5 May at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.Dubai Healthcare City is showcasing its various components (stand No: 2300 in Hall 3) at the dedicated UAEpavilion for the medicaltourism sector that has been introduced at Arabian Travel Market 2011.

During the event, Dr Ayesha Abdullah has been invited as panellist for a discussion on ‘Medical Tourism in the Middle East’.Inviting the views of experts and thought leaders, the session will aim to examine the key challenges faced by medical tourism and offer advice on ways to develop the sector effectively.

The UAE has strongly established itself as one of the top destinations for medical tourism in the Middle East with Dubai driving thedemand for global standardhealthcare services, against cost-competitivedestinations such as Thailand and India.

Dr Ayesha said: “Dubai Healthcare Citycomprises up to 90 medical centers, two JCI-accredited hospitals and more than 2,000 medical experts. DHCCreceived over 400,000 patients in 2010 compared with 220,000 in 2009. We are well-equipped to drive Dubai’s medical tourism objectives.”

As a free zone dedicated to healthcare excellence and quality patient care, Dubai Healthcare City has successfully broadened its delivery of healthcare solutions in 2010 through attractingnew serviceproviders invarious specialties, including ENT, ayurvedic medicine, obstetrics and gynecology/fertility treatment, and internal medicine.
