• Light Festival Brings Out The Beauty Of Sharjah’s Majestic Mosques

Illuminated Al Noor, Al Majaz And Omar Bin Al-khattab Mosques Add Sparkle To Emirate’s Balmy Evenings

Sharjah’s majestic mosques and the dazzling beauty of their magnificent architecture and motifs have been put in the limelight and celebrated like never before by the Sharjah Light Festival 2013 that continues until February 15. The SLF shows, specially crafted and created for Sharjah’s monuments, bring out the brilliant detail of the sublime Islamic architecture and civilization before the world.

The three magnificent mosques in the Light Festival itinerary, being hosted by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority for the third year, include Al Noor Mosque and Al Majaz Mosque overlooking the Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah City and the historical Omar bin al-Khattab Mosque in Khorfakkan on the East Coast, truly justifying the title, the Capital of Islamic Civilization for Year 2014 conferred by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The three world renowned mosques are transformed every night as they gleam and sparkle in the magic interplay of lights and colours, illuminating the emirate’s colour-tinted skyline and balmy evenings and attracting thousands of visitors from across the country and beyond.

Using special techniques of lighting, video technology, computer graphics and a riot of colors, internationally acclaimed experts and artists have created a fascinating mosaic, playing up with the columns and arches and highlighting domes and minarets in a tribute to the beauty of Islamic architecture.

According to the SCTDA, the goal of the Festival of Lights is not just to entertain and enthrall but highlight the richness of the Islamic heritage and culture and diversity of Sharjah, attracting visitors from across the region and the globe to visit the emirate exploring its landmarks, rich Emirati history and the legacy of ancestors which is cherished and protected to this day, making it worth a number of titles as the Capital of Arab and Islamic culture and tourism.

It is worth mentioning that the Sharjah Light Festival, in its third edition, is being hosted at 14 locations across the emirate. In addition to Al Noor Mosque, Al Majaz Mosque and Omar bin Al-Khattab Mosque in Khorfakkan, the SLF venues include: Al Qasba External and Internal Façades, Sharjah Hisn (Fort), Cultural Palace Square, Al Majaz Waterfront, Khalid Lagoon, Courthouse Complex, Central Souk, Sharjah Consultative Council and Kuwait Square, Sharjah International Airport and University of Sharjah Campus in Kalba. All shows are free and are held daily from 7pm to 11pm and until 12 midnight during weekends.
