• Department Of Transport To Complete Upgrading Of Parking Meters To Accept The New And Old Coins In Q2 2013

    The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced today that the upgrading of parking meters will be completed in the second quarter 2013, in order for the parking meters to accept the new and old coins and provide an effective system of parking management and the overall upgrading of transport infrastructure in Abu Dhabi.

    DoT through this project - aims to facilitate the use of parking meters for the public. DoT specified that priority was given to the most congested areas, such as the Central Business District (CBD), hospitals and governmental buildings. DoT completed the following sectors in Abu Dhabi:

    • Sector E4-01, located between East Street, Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum (Known as Airport Street), Al Falah Street and Zayed the Second Street.
    • Sector E4-02 is between East Street, Bani Yas Street (known as Al Najda), Al Falah Street and Zayed the Second Street.
    • Sector W38, located between Fifth Street, Zayed the First, Sixth Street and Al Khalidiya Police Station.
    • Sector W12, located between Corniche Street, Zayed the First Street, Sultan Bin Zayed Street and Sixth Street West.
    • Sector W9, located between Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, Zayed the First Street, King Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Street and Al Falah Street.
    • Sector W4, located at Khalidiya Region, between Zayed the First Street, Al Manahal Street, Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street and King Khaled Bin Abdel Aziz Street.
    • Sector E12, located between Corniche Street, Mina Road, Al- Ferdous Street and Sheikh Zayed Street (Known as Al-Salam Street).
    • Sector W15-02, located around the Eid Prayer Grounds area between Delma Street, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Street, Al Karama Street and Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
    • Sector E25, located between Delma Street, Mohamed Bin Khalifa Street, Al Nahyan Military Camp and Fourth Street (Known as Al Muroor).
    • Sectors W13-01, located between Al Manhal Palace, Hazza Bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Makhtoum Street and Al Karama Street.
    • Sectors E18, located between Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street, Sheikh Zayed Street, Hazza Bin Zayed Street, and Al Falah Street.

    It is worth mentioning that upgrading the parking meters requires plenty of time and effort in order to be compatible with the new and old coins in nearly 50 sectors in Abu Dhabi. Each parking meter has to be re-programed to recognize the weight, size and category of each coin before accepting or rejecting it.
