• Abu Dhabi Festival 2013 Celebrates 10th Edition With Specially Comissioned Tribute To The Legendary Rahbani Brothers

Famed composers Oussama & Ghadi Rahbani to stage world premiere of ’The Rahbani Legacy’ on March 25 at Festival Gala in Emirates Palace

Continuing its role as a ‘Festival of Firsts’, the 2013 Abu Dhabi Festival will be treating audiences to the world premiere of ‘The Rahbani Legacy’, conceived and created by acclaimed composers Oussama & Ghadi Rahbani.

‘The Rabhani Legacy’ is a dazzling tribute to the musical legacy of the late Rahbani Brothers - Mansour and Assi Rahbani - and their unparalleled contribution to Middle Eastern 20th century culture. On the evening of March 25, audiences will be treated to a medley of enduring romantic and patriotic songs, dabke, and mouwachahat written by the brothers, as well as solo works by Mansour, and newer pieces by Ghadi and Oussama, all of which are presented in a new orchestration. ‘The Rahbani Legacy’ stars Ghassan Saliba, Ronza, Fadia El Hajj, Hiba Tawaji, Simon Obeid, Nader Khoury and Elie Khayat. Volodymyr Sirenko conducts The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, an ensemble of oriental musicians and a 20-strong choir. Specially created for the 10th year anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Festival, this outstanding event is set to enthral audiences.

Renowned throughout the Arab World, the brothers created masterful musicals that touched on sentiments such as love and patriotism, and often featured famous historical Arab figures as well their artistic muse and Assi Rahbani’s wife, the legendary singer Fairuz. Paying homage to the full musical theatre style explored by the original performers, ‘The Rahbani Legacy’ will be accompanied by an exclusive exhibition of treasured manuscripts, original instruments and costumes from the private collection of the Rahbani Brothers.

Sons of the legendary Mansour Rahbani, Oussama and Ghadi grew up in a family where music was a prime influence, and both brothers made many contributions to their father’s works, as compositors, orchestrators and artistic consultants. This culmination of works from a spectacular family legacy encapsulates the true spirit of the Abu Dhabi Festival and showcases the modern day strength in Arabic music and arts.
