• Massive Preparations Underway For Sharjah Light Festival 2013

    Massive preparations are underway for the Sharjah Light Festival 2013 as the emirate excitedly looks forward to another grand celebration of architectural grandeur, culture and art of illumination, from February 7 to 15.

    The Festival of Lights, being held for the third consecutive year, will once again turn the spotlight on the emirate’s iconic buildings, monuments and cultural and tourist attractions at 14 locations across the emirate bringing out their beauty of design in a symphony of colours, lights and melody.

    Internationally acclaimed artists and technical wizards are working to put together another extravaganza of lights and colour never before seen in the region. The festival will be formally launched at Al Qasba once again under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah on Thursday, February 7th.

    The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority which is hosting the festival at a recent press conference revealed the details and features of several special shows being introduced this year. The special focus this year is on the rich marine life, underwater organisms and the emirate’s rich history of seafaring, fishing and pearl diving.

    The 14 SLF locations this year include Al Qasba (External Façade), Al Qasba (Internal Façade), Sharjah Hisn (Fort), Al Majaz Waterfront, Masjid Al Noor, Cultural Palace Square (Quran Roundabout), Masjid Al Majaz, Khalid Lagoon, House of Justice (Court Complex), Central Souk, Consultative Council and Kuwait Square, Sharjah International Airport, Masjid Omar Bin Al Khattab in Khorfakkan and Sharjah University in Kalba.

    The SCTDA has once again attracted a number of international artists and technical wizards to put together another memorable experience in the Sharjah Light Festival this year, and they are once again all set to cast their magical spell with breathtaking shows celebrating various facets of Sharjah’s heritage, architecture and history.

    The SCTDA said that it is once again looking forward to working with all the partners, participants and concerned authorities to ensure the success of another grand Sharjah Light Festival. The SLF 2013 partners include Sharjah Police, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Civil Defence, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Sharjah Transport, Zulal Water, Sharjah Contact Centre, Sharjah Media Center, Sharjah Media Corporation, Al Khaleej and Mega Mall.

    The first of its kind in the region, the Sharjah Light Festival has witnessed spectacular huge success attracting more than 90,000 visitors in its first year and over 200,000 visitors last year from across the region and beyond. All SLF shows once again will remain free. Show timings are 7.00pm to 11pm on week days and until 12.00 midnight during the weekend.
