• Wife Of Crown Prince Attends The Annual Winter Swimming Competition

    The Wife of the Crown Prince & Deputy Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Shiekha Azza Bint Bint Saud AL Qassimi attended the Annual Winter Swimming Competition 2012 at the Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) which was organized by the Sports Department at the Club’s Olympic Pool. The competition was attended by a great number of participants who represented various schools and entities as well as individuals belonging to team SLC.

    The competition comes as part of the set annual events & activities plan which aims at hosting various sporting events on a yearly basis, in order to encourage individuals to practice and adopt different kinds of hobbies & activities, and refine all given skills.

    The competition began by welcoming around 70 participants, who represented multiple clubs and schools such as Sharjah Wanderes Club, Victoria English School, Victoria International School, Apple International School and Sharjah Ladies Club. Competitors were able to take part in various categories of the event such as 50 Meters Butterfly, 50 Meters Breaststroke, 50 Meters Backstroke, 50 Meters Freestyle and 100 Meters Individual Medley. Participation for girls ranged between the age group of 7 to 16 years old, while boys between 6 to 9 years old were able to compete in the completion. The competitors were able to display amazing swimming skill which left the audience in an awe of their performance and showcased the children’s ability in performing in front of an audience and keeping high spirits.

    On this occasion, Hala Al Far, Swimming Administrator at SLC acknowledged the importance of hosting such competition on an annual basis due to the positive response and great turnout year after year.

    “The Annual Winter Swimming Competition has become one of our most awaited yearly events that we are keen on hosting continuously. The feedback we received in previous years encouraged us to host it on a bigger scale year after year and we always receive more participants every year which boosts the fact of its popularity. Through this competition we aim to encourage kids to practice their hobbies more often and refine them through such platforms. Thankfully, the event this year was also met with great response and appreciation and we hope to continue hosting it in future as well.” Said Al Far.

    At the end medals were given to first three winners in given categories, while certificates were distributed among all participants. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi won three gold medals in Butterfly, Backstroke, Freestyle categories and a bronze medal in breaststroke category.
