• ADP Vehicles And Drivers Licensing Department Marks Car-Free Day

Parking lots at the Abu Dhabi Police Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department were remarkably empty recently, when staff members left their cars at home and used public transportation from specific locations in Abu Dhabi to get to work. This initiative demonstrates the department’s efforts reduce carbon emission from vehicles.

Colonel Mohamed Mayouf Al Ketbi, Head of the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department in Abu Dhabi Police, said that the “Car-Free Day” initiative is an effort to enhance environment pollution reduction behavior strategies. It is also aimed at creating environmentally aware staff members and encouraging them to use public transport. “Such sustainable practices are an essential part of the efforts to enhance individuals’ environmental awareness,” he noted.

Adding further, Colonel Al Ketbi said that the “Car-Free Day” initiative falls in line with the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy to adopt the best environmentally friendly, green applications. It also embodies the Ministry of Interior’s vision, represented in the UAE’s National Strategy for Green Growth, which has defined six objectives: fostering economic competitiveness; supporting innovation; attracting investments; providing a sustainable high quality of life for citizens; achieving efficient use of natural resources and enhancing economic and national security in areas related to energy and water; and enhancing the country’s international reputation.

Colonel Al Ketbi stressed the department’s commitment to using the means and tools to reduce pollution; spread environmental culture among staff members and customers, by encouraging them to use public transport to commute to/from work and making this behavior a part of this culture.

For his part, Major Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Public Relations Branch Manager at the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, said that the “Car-Free Day” initiative is a new concept aimed at spreading the environmental protection culture. “The department supports this trend by spreading awareness amongst staff employees and customers; as well as cooperating with partners in reinforcing this concept and advocating the proper behaviors towards the environment and reducing pollution to maintain humans’ health and safety,” he noted.

In conclusion, he noted that the different awareness programs being implemented are essential to acquaint the public with the proper methods to protect the environment; and reiterated the Abu Dhabi Police’s unrelenting commitment to boost community members’ awareness.
