RTA Organizes Mobile Stand To Showcase Benefits Of Public Transport

In the context of the Public Transport Day, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) held a number of events during a site tour made by a mobile stand to key shopping malls in the Emirate with the aim of educating the public on the benefits of using mass transit systems (Dubai Metro, public buses and the Water Bus); which will be offered free of charge for Nol Card holders to mark the Public Transport Day on Nov 1st.

Dr. Aysha Al Busmait, Director of RTA Marketing & Corporate Communication, said: “The RTA has attached considerable attention to the Public Transport Day event since inception in 2010 by caring to run a host of diverse events targeting all community segments to familiarize them with the importance of public transport systems and the multiple mobility means in use.

The mobile stand attracted considerable number of visitors spanning all community segments as it toured shopping malls that frequently have large footfalls. The stand helped spotlighting the public transport systems used in Dubai Emirate, and elaborated the importance of public transport means for the health of individuals as well as the community.

“The mobile stand made promotional offers on Nol cards, and how to use them in public transit means, particularly the Blue card dedicated for selected groups, including students, offering them discounted fares in their daily travels,” she said.

Al Busmait pointed to the marketing campaign recently launched in the build up for the Public Transport Day, where the event received great promotion on newspapers, media and all social networks. A photo contest was launched through RTA portal in the Facebook in order to have the best image selected by public transport users. The finest 10 photos were selected and the top three winners were given valuable prizes in the form of iPads, whereas the rest received Nol card credit amounting to 500 dirham per winner,” continued Dr. Aysha.

For his part Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, Deputy Head of Public Transport Day Events Team, and Project Manager, said: “About 10 government entities in Dubai Emirate were visited to urge employees participate in the third edition of the event by using public transport means in Dubai, and prompt them buy Nol cards for using in their travels.

“Using public transport means has multiple benefits including reducing expenditure on petrol consumed by private vehicles, alleviating the tension & exhaustion associated with driving, and practicing physical activities of benefit to the physical & psychological health. It remains to be mentioned that encouraging the public to use public transport means will also boost RTA efforts aimed at conserving the environment and maintaining a clean living.

The Team supervising the mobile stand event distributed promotional leaflets containing detailed information about the advantages of using public transport systems.
