Light The Way For Special Olympics MENA Athletes By Carrying The White Flame

Show Your Support For Special Olympics MENA By Registering To Be A Flame Bearer

Drawing the community together in support of Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Procter & Gamble is inviting all members of Dubai society to participate in a relay that will carry the White Flame across Dubai, raising awareness for the event and the athletes with intellectual disabilities that will compete in it.

Flame Bearers will carry the White Flame along a number of legs, commencing from the Procter & Gamble office in Jebel Ali. Each leg will use a different method of transport; Flame Bearers will walk, take a taxi, cycle, use an abra or ride the metro, to mention but a few. Bearers will travel with the White Flame for a continuous 24 hours across the city, marking the sentiment of inclusion, acceptance and friendship from the community. The White Flame will end its route at the Festival Promenade in Festival City with a celebratory closing ceremony.

“It is important for the community to come together to support Special Olympics MENA, and this act of solidarity is very heartening for everyone involved, from our athletes with intellectual disabilities to the participants who will carry the White Flame along this symbolic journey,” said Ayman Wahab, Special Olympics MENA Regional President. “It is possible for a single individual to make a significant impact on the lives of our athletes, and by participating in this event Flame Bearers will play a meaningful part in raising awareness and demonstrating support for Special Olympics MENA.”

Lara AbiZeid, Brand Manager, P&G, said, “This act will bring the people of Dubai together in support of the Special Olympics MENA, which gives children and adult athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to demonstrate their unique abilities. Our athletes performed admirably at the Special Olympics Summer World Games last year, and we would like to garner the backing of the community to encourage them to achieve similar results at the next Games. Flame Bearers can perform the simple act of carrying the White Flame, but the impact of this on a Special Olympics’ athlete’s life could be substantial as a result of this single act.”

In further support of Special Olympics MENA, P&G AP’s ‘Make a Difference’ fundraising campaign aims to raise awareness to support ‘Healthy Athletes’, an initiative designed to help improve the health and fitness of Special Olympics athletes by providing them with proper healthcare. Proceeds from the purchase of brands such as Ariel, Tide, Fairy, Downy, Pampers, Always, Pantene, H&S, Pert, Herbal Essences, Crest, Oral B, Olay, Camay, Wella and Gillette in designated stores across the GCC region will be donated to the cause.
