RTA offers 50% discount on Personalized Nol Blue Card
With the launch of the Green Line of the Dubai Metro project last September offering integrated transit with public buses and water bus, public transport ridership started to grow at the backdrop of associated sterling services and first-rate facilities. Such facilities, which include state-of-the-art metro carriages, affluent stations fitted with all amenities, the most sophisticated buses worldwide, and enjoyable rides on board the water bus shuttling between the two shores of Dubai Creek, the mobility across Dubai has become a pleasant & stress-free experience.
To encourage more people to commute on mass transit modes, the Unified Automatic Fare Collection Dep’t at the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) announced a 50% discount on the issuance fees of Personalized Nol Blue Cards for riders of the metro (both Red & Green Lines) as well as public buses such that the sales price of the card will be 35 dirham instead of 70 dirham. This offer started from 2nd January 2012 and runs through 29 February 2012.
Mohammad Yousuf Al Mudharreb, Director of the Unified Automated Fare Collection at RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said: "Nol cards sold at this discounted price will have no prepaid balance and buyers would need to top them up. These cards are obtainable exclusively from metro stations and some public bus stations i.e. they will not be available online as the online price will remain unchanged.
"This step is taken as a further encouragement of more community members to obtain this card and avail the plentiful benefits on offer for the daily mobility on board the metro to pick up riders to their intended destinations across Dubai Emirate.
"RTA is always keen on making every effort to ensure that public transport users are offered smooth, safe, enjoyable, comfortable and affordable transit to ease their mobility across Dubai Emirate.
"Over the past years, RTA attended to offer improved & flexible services to keep pace with the daily life tempo, and managed to figure out practical & smart mobility solutions ensuring the optimal use of transit means. Examples of these include developing a unified fare structure ensuring the integration of multi-modal means (metro, public buses, water bus) through four categories of contactless smart Nol cards with a view to saving time & effort of commuters, and render their mobility on mass transit means as safe & smooth as possible," said the Director of Automated Fare Collection.
It is note-worthy that the Personalized Nol Card has a host of benefits including compatibility with a bunch of e-services including top-ups, secure e-purse, and account tracking features among others.
