• Al Tayer Leads RTA Delegation To UK

    Roads & Transport Authority – Mohammed Al Munji: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is leading a delegation from the RTA in an official visit to the UK on Wednesday. During the 4-day visit, the delegation will visit the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in Britain during which Al Tayer will deliver a lecture about the challenges that faced the RTA in constructing infrastructure projects, particularly the giant projects in roads and public transport sectors. The event will be attended by Chairpersons and CEOs of British companies and entities specialized in roads and transportation fields. The itinerary of the visit includes signing a cooperation pact between the RTA and the Transport for London (TfL) to promote cooperation, exchange information related to designing of rail and bus stations, train engineers and upgrade the services rendered to the public. The programme also includes a visit to the office of Serco, which attends to the operation & maintenance of the Dubai Metro.

    The delegation accompanying RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director consists of the CEO of Rail Agency Adnan Al Hammadi, Director of Development and Corporate Performance Dr. Khalid Al Zahid, Manager of Communication and International Relations at the Office of the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director Rawdah Mohammed Khalifa Al Mahrazi, Projects Advisor at the Office of the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director Dr. Khalid Ahmed Hamdi, and Protocol Officer Raaed Al Qafli.

    “This visit comes in the context of RTA’s efforts to boost the cooperation & partnership with the Transport for London, the Institution of Civil Engineers, and companies operating in roads, rail and transport sectors with the aim of reviewing expertise and best practices applicable in setting up, commissioning and maintaining various mass public transit systems & means, security & safety procedures in metro networks, and delivery of quality services to riders besides constructing, managing and maintaining roads, bridges and tunnels networks,” said Al Tayer.

    “The UK has advanced experiments in roads and mass transit systems spanning more than 150 years. We in the RTA are continuously endeavouring to capitalize on global practices in roads and transport sector with the aim of enriching RTA projects with the best practices. Over the past few years, RTA undertook a host of giant protects highlighted by the Dubai Metro, roads & bridges network and upgrade of public transport means. Currently, we have got to benefit from the expertise of the advanced countries in order to identify the optimal method for managing these integrated systems efficiently. We will also brief the British officials about our experiment in the transition towards mass transit systems,” added Al Tayer.

    “The RTA had signed an agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers for training a number of fresh graduate Emirati engineers to groom them for the full membership of the ICE. To kick start the process, 8 engineers have been enrolled 5 of whom from the Strategic Planning Department, and engineers are currently being assessed to identity the type of training needed for obtaining the membership of the ICE, and the training will last 3 to 5 years. It is worth-mentioning that the Institution of Civil Engineers has accredited the RTA as a certified entity for training and qualifying employees in the UAE for obtaining ICE’s membership.
