• RTA Publishes Book Showcasing Services & Achievements Of Mass Transit Systems In Dubai

    Roads & Transport Authority – Manal Khalid:The Public Transport Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently published a book highlighting the achievements made by the Agency over the past five years with the aim of sharing with all community members as well as public & private organizations the key projects and strategic initiatives undertaken in Dubai Emirate in the fields of mass transportation aligned with the best global standards.

    Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, CEO of RTA Public Transport Agency, praised the initiative describing it as a rich addition to the record of the Agency as it spans various developments made in public transport systems; which are the backbone of services rendered to all segments of the community. “Thanks to the directives of H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Chairman of the Board & Executive Director, RTA is making expeditious efforts to keep abreast of the global developments in mass transit systems and is always seeking to launch initiatives and adopt ambitious plans to carry out vital projects, offer services and introduce sustainable solutions to raise the profile of Dubai Emirate at par with the countries which made substantial advancements in the field of mass transportation. The Agency is particularly endeavouring to offer diverse services covering running of public buses within Dubai Emirate or with other Emirates, upgrading marine transit systems (abras, water taxi and Ferry Dubai), supervising the taxi transport sector, regulating school transport, and implementing various strategic initiatives,” added Al Dosari.

    The Book, which was published by Public Transport Agency, shed light on several topics related to the Agency including a brief account about the Agency & its Organization Chart, and the strategy of upgrading and integrating mass transit systems in Dubai Emirate in terms of planning, managing, operating and maintaining public buses as well as taxis and marine mass transit systems. It also features the latest technologies and highest standards of safe & luxurious buses feeding the Dubai Metro, Dubai Airport bus, city bus and inter-city bus.

    The Book also highlighted various intelligent technological systems adopted by the Agency in all operations rendering mobility an effective & efficient exercise which covers the automatic management of bus movement, real-time passenger information display monitors, automatic fare collection system, electronic journey planner (Wojhati) and the rescheduling of timetables. It also examined the creative community-oriented initiatives rolled out by the Agency which have remarkably contributed to boosting the culture of sustainable transport highlighted by Awselni, Sharekni, streamlining the school transport sector, bus hiring services and printing journey maps & bus routes.

    It also focused on the integrated bus rental services; which comprises the three types of buses: standard buses, double-deckers and deluxe coaches. Buses have lifted 113 million passengers last year; which reflects the superior quality of services offered by the Agency to commuters.

    The Book also referred to the bus stations spread all over Dubai Emirate numbering 15 stations linked by several routes the number which is tailored to cope with the footfall as well the favourite passenger destinations, besides highlighting the construction of three new bus depots at Al Rawiyyah, Khawaneej and Jebel Ali.

    Marine mass transit modes were also featured in the Book as they have recently undergone upgrading to keep pace with the ambitious Dubai plans of strengthening mass transit systems comprising the water taxi, Ferry Dubai, water bus and abras. It also reviewed the taxi fleet overseen by Public Transport Agency as regards policy making, enacting legislations and monitoring the conduct of franchise companies. This fleet is managed according to the highest global standards and tracked by state-of-the-art surveillance systems. It enjoys a constant and regular maintenance measuring up to top-class safety and cleanliness standards. The fleet includes Airport Taxi, public taxi, ladies & families taxi, special needs taxi and Hatta Taxi.

    The taxi Booking & Despatch Center, which operates 24/7, is a key business hub as it receives calls of customers, identifies their needs and assigns job orders to cabbies, and monitors all taxicabs. The staff of the Center is keen on providing the types of vehicles required by customers, and providing integrated database for external customers (the public) and internal customers (drivers).

    At the end of the Book, which is compiled in both Arabic & English, the Agency displayed the local and global certificates of appreciation obtained during its service period; which prompt the Agency to pursue further achievements in mass transit field.
