• Green Line Metro Stations Offer Access To Vital Destinations Across Dubai

    Stations Network Span Residential, Health, Cultural And Business Districts

    Roads & Transport & Authority – Manal Khalid: The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), reaffirmed that the construction of the Dubai Metro Green Line was part of a master plan intended to enhance the integration of mass transit modes and expand public transport reach to all residential, trading & business districts as well as other cultural, sports and health facilities. The line as such plays a distinctive role in meeting the expectations of individuals traveling to various key destinations of interest to them; thus contributes to directing commuters to use the metro and thereby reduce the use of private vehicles; which will ultimately have a positive impact on easing roads congestion in Dubai Emirate.

    According to Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of RTA Rail Agency, the Green Line would satisfy the mobility needs in various key districts of Dubai Emirate as it runs across vital areas in Dubai. “The line starts off Etisalat Station; which has an important geographical location being situated in Al Qusais at Al Nahda Street and sits in an area of high population density. It is therefore poised to be a point of attraction to the public, particularly those coming from Sharjah & other neighbouring Emirates. Among the key features of this Station is the multi-level Park-and-Ride terminal linked with the nearby Bus Station and the building is also linked by air-conditioned footbridges providing smooth access to the Station.

    “The Green Line passes through successive stations and vital locations namely; Al Qusais Station, Dubai Airport Free Zone, Al Nahdah, Stadium Station; which serves highly populated areas and commercial & sports complexes such as Al Ahli Club & Lulu Center, Al Bustan Center, Al Ittihad Coop Society at Al Tawar, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Works and the Customer Service Center of Dubai Municipality.

    “Al Qiyadah Station, which borders the Dubai Police General HQ building, is expected to be hugely popular to individuals including visitors as well as employees, and the station is fitted with an air-conditioned walkway linking with the other side of Al Ittihad Road to serve passengers heading towards Al Mamzar Center or other multiple commercial outlets in the area. Abu Hail Station is another popular destination to many individuals as it is situated in a popular & commercial area with abundant businesses & malls such as Abu Hail Center & Sana Fashions in addition to a host of health centers & schools. The Station also offers integrated transit services with the nearby Bus Station fitted with passengers waiting area.

    “Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Station serves mostly commercial areas such as retail outlets for building materials, hotels, Hamarain & Warba Centers, Al Muraqqabat Police Station and the nearby residential neighbourhood. Next comes Salah Uddin Station; which is situated in the heart of the Dubai Central Business District in close proximity to Al Ghurair & Al Reef Centers and a number of restaurants & hotel apartments; which are a prominent destination to tourists. This Station has a unique & strategic location and is expected to be very popular to metro commuters.

    “Then comes the Union Square Station; which is Transfer Station in which the Red and Green Lines meet enabling commuters transfer between the two lines and complete the journeys to their intended destinations. The Stations is close to the Business District that includes the Dubai Municipality, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Lands Dep’t, Etisalat and many other commercial outlets opposite to Al Maktoum Street. The Green Line also comprises Bani Yas Station; which enjoys an important geographical location being close to the old business center of Dubai Emirate, and abras plying the Dubai Creek; which are themselves attraction points to tourists & visitors from various nationalities & categories; which makes the Station also expected to be busy with metro riders. The Palm Deira Station; which is another tourist attraction, is likely to be equally attractive to community members and visitors being close to Deira Corniche, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Gold Souk, and Deira Old Souk.

    “Al Ras Station is considered among the key & vital stations on the Green Line as is near the old business center of Dubai and can therefore be popular to visitors & tourists particularly as it sits in an area featuring wholesale & retail selling outlets, Old Gold Souk, and the historical buildings such as Al Ahmadiya School; which was the first school built in the Emirate. Al Ghubaiba Station is located in one of the busiest districts of Dubai of Al Bastakiya and Shindagha near the Heritage and Diving Village replicating the heritage of the UAE, and is therefore a destination for a large number of visitors, particularly during the Dubai Shopping Festival; being a perfect venue for staging events & activities besides its proximity to a variety of shops and banks. The Station is expected to be busy with metro commuters as it offers integrated multi-modal transit service, thanks to the Bus Terminal and a Marine Station which is set to start operation this year.

    “Among other key stations on the Green Line is Al Fuhaidi Station at the intersection of Khalid bin Al Waleed Street with Al Musalla & Al Mankhool Streets. This Station is distinctively featured by a number of electronic & computer hardware selling outlets as well as the Gulf Center and several leading banks. This area is already busy with private vehicles and the station is expected to be very popular and accordingly contribute to easing congestion on Dubai Streets.

    “Khalid bin Al Waleed Station is the second station at which the Red & Green Lines intersect. The Station is close to Burjuman Center and a host of diverse commercial outlets besides being situated in a heavily populated area highlighted by Al Karama. Next comes Oud Metha Station which is one of the key stations as it is close to a number of cultural & health centers opposite to Rashid Hospital in a neighborhood encompassing several sports clubs such as Al Nasr Sports Club and cultural clubs such as those for the Iranian, Jordanian, Egyptian, and Sudanese communities. It also borders a number of private schools, Dubai Television and a number of residential districts.

    “Then comes Dubai Healthcare City which offers health services to various community segments as well as visitors, and houses a large number of specialized clinics & medical centers of high international repute; which are very popular to different sorts of peoples. The Station is also in close proximity to Wafi Shopping Center, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Grand Cineplex, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority and a number of banks; and accordingly promises to be popular as well.

    “The Green Line in general is expected to witness considerable public turnout from various community segments including tourists & visitors of Dubai Emirate in particular as it spans key old & modern districts of the Emirate, rendering it a point of attraction enticing commuters to use the metro; which is an excellent addition to the UAE and is set to complement the successes made by the Red Line since opened in 2009.
