• Daily Nol Cards Transactions On The Rise: RTA

Roads & Transport Authority – Nashwan Attaa’ee: Dubai Metro project has yet to complete its second year, but the number of metro commuters is showing an upward trend due to the sterling services and facilities along with the mass transit service on offer including state-of-the-art metro carriages & stations fully equipped with all services and amenities that render mobility a safe, smooth, comfortable and enjoyable experience let alone being integrated with other mass transit modes including public buses particularly those feeding the metro stations.

Due to this radical change in the public transport sector in Dubai Emirate, the daily transactions of Nol cards are equally on the rise. Such transactions include passengers entry & exit from metro stations & public buses, payment of parking fees, and recharging of various types of cards such that the total number of daily transactions has now hit more than one million per day, according to the CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services, Roads & Transport Authority, Abdullah Al Madani.

"More than one million different transactions are recorded on daily basis by various types of Nol cards; which means that the number of public transport users, especially the metro, is constantly going up and the culture of using public transport systems in Dubai Emirate is spreading among various segments of the community," he added.

"The Metro started operation on 09/09/2009 and within 16 days only of that date, passengers count of this highly sophisticated transport means has broken the one million barrier. However, this has not come as a surprise given the vital importance of the project; which has brought in a quantum shift in the public transport sector in the region.

"Nol silver card is the top seller as sales record show that about 3000 cards are being sold daily, and the total number of Nol cards of various categories sold from the launch of the metro service up to the end of April this year has exceeded 3 million cards compared to 1.9 million cards sold in the same period back in 2010," continued Al Madani.

It is worth-mentioning that over the past years RTA has been working on upgrading its services to cope with the tempo & flexibility of the daily life, and worked out practical & smart solutions for mobility and optimal use of public transport means through developing a unified fare system ensuring multi-modal integration of different transport means. It also developed a comprehensive fare structure and four categories of the smart contact-less Nol cards with a view to saving time, effort & money, and enabling users to use all mass transit systems of the RTA in Dubai.
