• RTA Briefs Australian Delegation To Its Expertise In Accomplishing Dubai Metro

    Roads & Transport Authority – Mohammed Al Munji: H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has recently received an Australian delegation comprising top executives of rail manufacturers and operators in Australia, in the presence of H.E. Kim Hewitt, the Australian Consul General in Dubai, and H.E. Elizabeth Gordon Chancellor and the Australian Trade Commissioner.

    At the outset of the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed the Australian delegation and praised the flourishing relationships between the UAE and Australia particularly in the economic and tourist sectors; resulting in growing trading exchange and the launch of several direct flights between the UAE & Australian cities; which in turn upped the number of tourists traveling between the two countries.

    The meeting discussed the means of boosting cooperation and exchanging expertise between the RTA and Australian companies engaged in the rail sector and other transit means, and explored prospective mass transit & road projects set to be undertaken by the RTA.

    Speaking about the key factors that helped the RTA complete the Dubai Metro project on time, Al Tayer said: “The unlimited support and continued follow-up of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, comes atop of these factors which also include RTA’s clear vision, mission & objectives, continuous follow-up of work progress at various stages of the project, team spirit and close cooperation & communication with the relevant internal & external parties, sound management of risks & challenges, and integrated work program in respect of key partners & subcontractors as well as authentication and benefiting from the learned lessons.”

    Al Tayer reviewed RTA initiative of boosting the cooperation and partnership with the private sector; a model set to be implemented by the RTA in some projects relating to roads, water transport, and Bus Terminals with the aim of creating attractive business elements in the intended projects.

    The Australian delegation then watched a documentary film narrating the work progress in the Dubai Metro project, comprised of the Red and Green Lines; which is considered the longest driverless metro line undertaken in a single project worldwide. The Red Line extends 52 km (including 5km underground) and comprises 29 stations (4 underground and 25 elevated stations including two stations at the Dubai International Airport), whereas the Green Line spans 22 km (including 10 km underground) and comprises 18 stations (including 6 underground).

    H.E. Kim Hewitt, the Australian Consul General in Dubai, hailed RTA pace in constructing infrastructure projects such as road projects, Dubai Metro, upgrading the fleet of public buses and the integration between various transit modes. He also commended the fabulous design and top quality finishes as well as the excellent passengers service featuring the Dubai Metro.

    He stated that he would be looking forward to boost the cooperative and partnership relations between the two parties as reflected in sharing expertise and practices in the field of public transport and rail systems. He concluded by adding that the Australian private sector would be aspiring to take part in the projects & programs intended to be released by the RTA in the near future.
