Dubai Global Energy Forum 2011 To Discuss The City’s Efforts To Develop And Implement Sustainable Transport Solutions

Dubai Showcases The Use Of A Mix Of Implemented Conventional Approaches And New Technologies

Dubai Global Energy Forum 2011, the first global event of its kind in the Emirate of Dubai on energy related issues, will examine Dubai’s efficient-energy management system and its use of a combination of conventional proven approaches and new technologies as per the UAE Vision 2021 which aims at supporting Dubai’s efforts to become one of the lowest carbon-emitting areas in the world.

HE Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, said “Dubai is aware of the environmental impact of carbon emissions and it has implemented a series of successful and highly efficient energy management technologies that have contributed in providing sustainable transport to meet the emirate’s needs, preserve the environment and safeguard resources from depletion. The Dubai Global Energy Forum will support our future vision in this field creating the ideal stage for bringing experts, government leaders and captains of industry together to explore new ideas and solutions to manage the need to meet energy demand with existing and alternate energy sources.”

“While most transport models will continue to rely on existing energy sources, it is vitally important that we look at improving the efficiency of such transport options combined with the introduction of economically-viable alternate energy solutions to meet Dubai’s need for a sustainable environment. This is why the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is seeking effective solutions for efficient energy-management and considers DGEF an ideal platform that will help the city seek out and integrate the latest strategies and technologies to produce a sustainable economically viable energy sector that can benefit not only the region but also the world,” His Excellency explained.

Dubai’s transport infrastructure has seen a series of regional firsts to meet this vision. Dubai introduced the first mass rapid-transit system in the Gulf with the launch of Dubai Metro by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). A recent study by the RTA shows that the electric railway system reduced energy consumption in the city by 25 percent using many innovative ways to re-use energy and cut-down consumption.

In 2007, Dubai became the first city in the Middle East to adopt green building specifications when HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued green building specifications and standards in the Emirate, requiring owners of all residential and commercial buildings and properties in the city to comply with internationally-recognised environmentally-friendly specifications.
