• Al Tayer Explores Coop With Singaporean SMRT Corp

    Roads & Transport Authority – Mohammed Al Munji: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has received at Al Wasl Hall, Dubai World Trade Center H.E. Saw Phaik Hwa, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Singaporean SMRT Corporation Ltd in the presence of H.E. Dileep Nair, the Singapore Consul in Dubai and several executives of SMRT. From the RTA attended Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector; and Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of Rail Agency.

    The meeting discussed means of promoting cooperation and exchanging expertise between the RTA and SMRT besides exploring the potentials of enhancing mutual cooperation in future. SMRT Corp, which manages three of Singapore’s four metro lines, is considered among the best rail & bus operators worldwide and one of the rare companies in the world that make profit out of rail operation process.

    Al Tayer welcomed the Singaporean delegation and hailed the extensive participation of the Singaporean companies in the UITP Congress and Exhibition saying: “RTA has benefited so much from the Singaporean pioneer expertise in developing mass transit infrastructure, particularly rail projects. RTA work teams have made several visits to Singapore to review their experience in constructing and operating rail and tram systems. This cooperation has yielded the establishment of a consortium of three advertising agencies comprising, besides the Singaporean SMRT Media, Kassab Media and Wellmark Communications to plan the advertising space, carry out design works, operation and ad marketing services in 47 metro stations as well as in the rolling stock of the Red and Green Lines extending 75 km; 52 km on the Red Line and 23 km on the Green Line, in addition to footbridges, tunnels, metro track pillars, emergency exits, and moving images screens for ten years.

    "Last year the RTA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Land Transport Authority in Singapore to strengthen the strategic partnership relations, exchange expertise in all aspects of global developments in the field of mobility and transportation, strengthen relations of friendship & cooperation between the two sides, and utilize experiences in modern transportation-related programs and technologies. The MoU also coordinates work with regards to programs underway, enhances communication for the exchange of knowledge, and reviews & discusses the global themes of mobility & transportation and initiatives of both parties, exchanges of expert & staff to contribute to some relevant projects, conducts studies, researches, conferences, workshops, training sessions and visits. It also covers joint coordination in the dissemination of information, and applying the best global practices and new innovations in mobility and transportation sector," he added. Al Tayer pointed out that that the MoU covered many areas relating to RTA’s business in the field of roads, traffic, public transport, and trains in addition to training opportunities for RTA’s employees with a view to raising the abilities of the technical personnel to implement the best options for improving roads and transportation to bring them in line with world-class standards and practices.

    For his part, H.E. Saw Phaik Hwa, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Singaporean SMRT Crop, praised the comprehensive development witnessed by the Emirate of Dubai in a record time making it a focal point for investors, businessmen and tourists. He also commended RTA’s efforts towards achieving rapid transition to mass transit system through the construction of the Dubai Metro project, and upgrading bus transit system.
