CEO Business Summit Opens On November 27, 2012
Global and regional business leaders converge in Dubai for the inaugural event
Top global and regional business leaders will converge in Dubai at The Ritz Carlton – Dubai International Financial Centre to discuss growth opportunities in the second wave emerging markets of Africa and the Middle East. The inaugural CEO Business Summit, organised by Dubai World Trade Centre begins on 27 until 28 November, and will feature a stellar line-up of prominent CEOs and business leaders who will discuss strategies to capitalise on these new emerging markets. They will also discuss issues and challenges faced by top companies across various industries, disciplines and geographies.
Set in the geographic nexus of Europe, Asia and Africa, Dubai serves as the ideal backdrop for this crucial summit of business leaders. According to the UAE Central Bank, while developed markets have struggled to exit economic uncertainty, Dubai’s economy is projected to grow more than 3.5 percent this year, topping the International Monetary Fund’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimate. Dubai’s natural connectivity to the rest of the world and its success as an international business hub provides the perfect location for this gathering.
Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre, organizer of the CEO Business Summit said: “It is vital for business leaders and decision makers to continue to engage and interact with their peers, in order to understand the state of their specific industries. We are proud to organise the inaugural CEO Business Summit as it provides the ideal platform for global thought-leaders to get together and openly discuss issues that affect their industries, and strategies that have been successfully implemented. As markets in the Middle East and Africa quickly join the space that was once dominated by BRICS countries, we at DWTC will continue to work towards identifying new ways in which business leaders can network and tap into the full potential of the region.”
The CEO Business Summit will take place over two days and include speakers from a variety of industries who will share their insights in specialised sessions. Speakers from the finance sector include Hussain AlQemzi, Group CEO of Noor Islamic Bank, Mohammad Qasim Al Ali, CEO of National Bonds Corporation, Yasser AbuAteek, CEO Dar Al Tamleek, Salam Al Shaksy, CEO of the National Bank of Oman, and Juhani Parda, President MEA of Translink Corporate Finance.
Representing the technology sector, Don Strickland, former VP of Apple, will provide insight into the strategies that Apple employed to drive its growth. Other technology leaders include Duncan Mitchell, Cisco’s Global SVP of its Emerging Theater – a region that spans 84 countries, including those in the Middle East. Joining Mitchell will be Jonathan Labin, Country Manager – MENA for the social media giant, Facebook, Ihab Ghattas, Assistant President of Huawei Middle East, and Gung Yu, Chairman of what has been called one of the greatest growth stories of China, The Store Corporation.
Among the topics to be discussed is the development of technology and infrastructure in Africa. With a land mass greater than that of the USA, China, Europe and India combined and with a continental population of 1.1 billion, Africa’s potential for development is drawing increased focus from multi-national companies.
The forum will be moderated by CNBC Arabia special correspondent, Eithne Treanor. Having interviewed politicians and global business leaders, she is in a unique position to contextualize the global nature of business. Adding to the media perspective will be Sam Barnett, the CEO of MBC Group.
Leaders of other major corporations presenting at the Summit include Sanjiv Mehta, MENA Chairman of Unilever, Hussein Hachim, CEO – Middle East of Aramex, Walid Abu Khaled, member of the advisory board of Petra Solar, and Christophe Campagne, Country President of Schneider Electric KSA. Formula One expert, Mark Gallagher and author of The CEO Shift will also be present.
The CEO Business Summit is organized by Dubai World Trade Centre in partnership with Aramex, Cathay Pacific, National Bonds, Noor Islamic Bank, MBC Group, Emerging Markets Leadership Center, Unilever, Arab Business Club, and CEO Clubs UAE. For more information, visit www.dubaiCEOsummit.com
