• Louvre Abu Dhabi Final Talking Art Series Lecture Concludes

The fourth edition of Louvre Abu Dhabi: Talking Art Series drew to a close on Wednesday May 27th, with a finale discussion on 'Art as a Witness of Globalisation' at Manarat Al Saadiyat. This culmination of five engaging panels centered on the development of Louvre Abu Dhabi was followed by a special solo piano recital by acclaimed French pianist, Bertrand Chamayou.

Panelists Jean-Hubert Martin, internationally respected curator and former Director of Centre Pompidou in Paris and Museum Kunstpalast in Dusseldorf, and Jean- Francois Charnier, Scientific Director, Agence France-Museums, explored the idea of the ‘global museum’ in relation to the universal view of Louvre Abu Dhabi. Speakers offered the audience a unique insight into the rationale and significance of the creation of such a museum in Abu Dhabi.

Hissa Al Dhaheri, Programmes Manager of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said, "The fourth edition of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Talking Art Series saw a high level of engagement at each event with both the scholarly community as well as with our local, regional and international audiences. Exploring the many different themes and topics around the development of a museum like Louvre Abu Dhabi, these discussions acted as a window into the museum ahead of its official opening."

The fourth Talking Art Series drew audiences from around the region and brought many influential and important speakers to Abu Dhabi, including Martin Kemp, Emeritus Research Professor in the History of Art, University of Oxford, James Ivory, renowned filmmaker and art collector and Jean Nouvel, the Pritzker-Prize winning architect of Louvre Abu Dhabi.

As part of the Abu Dhabi Classics season, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority presented Global Encounters, a solo piano recital by Bertrand Chamayou, built around the question of a different globalisation in which if it is not only considered an economical process leading to the homogenisation and ultimately merging of markets, but also as an intellectual and artistic process involving dialogues and exchanges beyond borders and between cultures, whereby the 19th century paradoxically appears as a time of rich experimentation and exploration.
